Where is the Best Chill Scene in Los Angeles, California?
This is one of my very favorite spots in LA. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting, I love the tin ceiling and dark wood, and the crowd is so diverse and chill. The old school drink menu (think Manhattans and gimlets) makes you feel like you’ve arrived at a classy joint. As for the food- don’t even get me started on the BLT Salad. Amazing. I could eat it every day. The only area where this place falls short is the bartenders. Holy attitudes. One was so busy (with a non crowded bar) that when we ordered a bottle of wine he slammed the glasses down, sloppily opened the bottle, and as an afterthought he filled each glass to the very top with wine and walked away. Another night the bartender threw my tab at me and said “I’m heading out, so I’m gonna close you out”. This was hours before the bar closed, it was just the end of his shift! This place is a fun night out, but definitely for an older crowd overall. My boyfriend and I were there for Valentine’s day to see some live jazz which was amazing, but the people next to us were celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary when we just graduated from college last year, and that was pretty much the average age there, minus two other younger couples, but as long as you are with a good conversation partner it is worth going. The food is VERY WELL done but a bit pricey with the cheapest entree at $28 but there is no cover for the live jazz so it evens out. The service was very good, but at times with the music it was hard to talk with my boyfriend across our table since our table was abnormally long. Go prepared to spend some money and make sure you call in advance to check what time the jazz shows are starting. Initially I was coming on here to leave a great review for La Poubelle (as I just did on YELP). Upon finding them on here, I read the review titled, “Let them eat cupcakes”. I feel inclined to interject a comment on this because I think this review was done as a vendetta as it seems pretty falsified. I happened to be inside the night this psuedo infamous Cupcake incident happened. It was during the debate and got much attention from several of us Poubelle supporters. This woman, who claims she was terribly treated was asked to leave a donation as it was an Obama fundraiser and the tray of cupcakes were clearly marked. When a waiter asked her quietly to make a donation she seemingly declined. I saw him follow her and quietly and kindly ask her a second time to make a donation as they were not free, she took a big bite out of the cupcake and said something sarcastic along the lines of “too late now”.
