Where is the Best BYOB Restaurant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?
We would not go back. The 4 of us arrived 15 minutes late for a Saturday night reservation. We even called the restaurant to let them know we were running a little late, were told “not to worry – the table is yours until 9:30”. Our table was not yet ready when we arrived. We waited about 5 –10 minutes to have it cleared. We ordered our appetizers and dinner promptly. The appetizers we served in a reasonable amount of time, but the dinner took at least another 45 minutes to be served. Less than ½ hour after being served dinner, we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee, and that we would have to take it “to go” as another party was waiting for our table. We were speechless. Our friend, a physician, who made the reservation and suggested Django, said very politely to the server, that the kitchen was exceptionally slow and was the cause for the delay. They apologized and gave us “dessert to go”. While the meal was overall very good, but on the funky side, my husband could not eat his – the
My Fiance and I went there for the first time last night. We have been meaning to eat here for over a year, so needless to say our expectations were high. The waitstaff were all very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable of the dishes. We always had a full glass of water and bread if we desired. The seafood was very good, and the dishes were unlike any other I have had in a seafood restaurant. One thing we did not like was the addition of “sides” that the seafood was served over. For example, I ordered the Skate, and the skate itself was incredible. However, it was served over (literally on top of) Broccoli Rabe (very good) and Boar. The boar was shredded and served in a lot of dark brown, very strong sauce, reminiscent of a gravy. It was good, but the sauce overpowered the whole dish. Towards the end all I could taste was that sauce, which took away from the great flavor of the skate. Overall I highly recommend this place, the food is great. Just be aware fo the
The food is really wonderful here. We were seated for dinner rather late, 9pm. In fact, we were the last couple to leave. however we did not feel rushed to eat and go. I would recommend the sweet breads, foie gras and the duck breast. Our server was very knowledgable on all of the items on the menu and could really speak in depth of the origins of the ingredients and the inspirations behind the plates. It was a nice little restaurant- perfect for your romantic evening. Pros + great food and serviceCons – parking, small space
After reading reviews of Pumpkin and hearing some friends say what they thought, I decided to make my own decision and go. We went on a Sunday and they offer a 5 course tasting for $35 per person. Not a bad price for what you get. A chilled soup of potatoes and celery(foam) with a oyster tartare in the center was surprisingly light. Although I would’ve preferred a warm soup this did it right for a starter. Next was a Crudo for me and a Chartucerie plate for my wife. Crudo was a Japanese fish, i cannot remember the name, with english peas, pickled beets and radishes. It was served with the traditional dressing of Olive oil and some citrus and beet juice. It was Great! The fish was cold and fresh with a melt in your mouth feeling everytime. The Chartucerie plate was 3 slightly exotic meats. We didn’t hear her explain them due to the large party just popping champagne! But one sausage was very game-like perhaps a venison, and one was like a pate’ the 3rd and best meat was quail perhaps wi
My boyfriend and I went to Melograno on a Tuesday night with reservations for 7:30. Even though it was a weeknight the place was packed and I was happy that we had a reservation in place since there were about 3 parties waiting for tables. Our waitress was “ecclectic” to be nice…since we were spending a good amount of money for our meal I expected her to look and act more professional. She had crazy makeup, and was wearing grungy jeans and beat up black sneakers! She didnt seem to care that our bread was delivered late and we never received olive oil at all. The older man that was filling our water glasses was a million times more pleasant than our waitress. On to the food…Our appetizer WAS delicious…we shared the portobello with goat cheese and it was rich and full of flavor. My meal (pan fried chicken w/ proscuttio and mozzarella) was severely overdone, dry and completely flavorless! My boyfriend had the pasta with shrimp and scallop, and it was JUST OK. WE heard great things
