I’ve been wanting to try Angelica’s for quite some time and finally went this Saturday night. Although the food was pretty good (though nothing we couldn’t have cooked ourselves at home just as well), the service was atrocious. First, our waiter did not introduce himself and probably said a total of 5 words to us all night. He literally just stood at the table looking at us when it came time to order. Although we were all vegetarians, it would have been helpful for the waiter to ask if anyone had any questions about the menus since not everyone is familiar with typical vegetarian foods, like seitan, etc. Our appetizers came out incredibly quick, which was not necessarily a bad thing. However, before we had even gotten halfway through the appetizers our entrees were literally shoved onto the table and once again, the waiter said absolutely nothing to us. Also, they rushed to clear our table after we had finished our entrees, but for some unknown reason left a hummus appetizer pla

This place is cute, nicely decorated and good for a date or small group of friends. We were here for dinner and we all liked our food. It was a step up from your normal neighborhood Thai with some dishes you wont see everywhere. The sizable list of daily specials shows culinary effort as well. The down side was the server, who seemed a little over his head and careless at the same time: my friend ordered a shrimp salad and got a larger, more expensive shrimp stir-fry instead. The service was slow throughout our meal and while waiting for our check we realized our server was lounging at another table and chatting. Still, I will assume this is an exception and will come back another time.Pros + food, homey yet not class-less atmosphereCons – monday night server

I came across Abristo in the most interesting of ways. I asked a woman whom I really fancied n wanted to impress to pick the country she’d like to eat in for our first date n when she responded with Senegal, to say the least I was a bit dumbfounded. Senegalese was a cuisine I had never tried nor knew much about, so I was a bit thrown off my footing. With a few calls to some fellow foodies I realized I kept being told the same name ? Abistro! Abistro! Abistro! Each review more grandiose than the last of this Senegalese/French fusion restaurant n please understand that the term fusion is used in the best sense and practice of the word in this case. I did some research on my own, stopped by the restaurant, and during an afternoon stroll in the area (Recon), Cassandra the owner was so helpful in explaining EVERYTHING on the menu, mind you they were closed at the time. My date and I returned later that evening to the quaint restaurant with its white washed exterior and no large signage, bu

Until my experience at Sigiri I had only heard tell of the delights of Sri Lankan food. Its not easy to find this cuisine I was in San Francisco a few weeks earlier and was certain that Id get the opportunity while there. I was disappointed to learn that the only Sri Lankan restaurant in the Bay area had closed.Consequently I was determined to seek out this elusive quarry during my 3 day 2 night visit to NYC. I identified 3 active Sri Lankan restaurants one in Staten Island where there is rumored to be a Littletiny Sri Lanka neighborhood. I decided to go for dinner to Sigiri because its in the East Village which is always fun I figured with the dozen or two competing Indian restaurants within two blocks they would make an effort to distinguish the menu from the common Indian fare.I was well-rewarded. The restaurant is tiny run by a Sri Lankan family. Seems the twenty-something son is in front with mom working the back of the house. There are 6 4-top and an equal number of 2-top tab

My girlfriend and I went there on a Friday night. The sushi was fantastic; very creative rolls and all the fish was fresh and tasty. The service was good enough; a little slow, but we were in no rush to leave anyway. The only drawback being it is a little small and you’re sort of sitting on top of the tables next to you. But all in all, a nice experience.Pros + Great foodCons – A little small for the crowds
