Where is the Best BYOB Restaurant in New York, New York?
We rented Bedouin Tent for a private party (45 people) and had a truly wonderful experience. We had use of the beautiful garden and the air conditioned back room and had an unlimited four course buffet consisting of everything on the menu (salads and dips, pitzas, meats, dessert). We’d eaten there many times before and had our own favorites, but definitely discovered some new ones (the lamb platter, for example)! Our guests absolutely raved about the food (a number of whom had never tried Middle Eastern before); among the favorites: the hummus, grape leaves, pita (they make their own–delicious!), pitzas (my own favorite, the lambajin, though there were some excellent other varieties), the merguez (best I’ve had anywhere, no exaggeration), and the lamb (delicious!!). The service was fantastic–incredibly friendly and so accommodating, and with the BYOB policy, I don’t think there could be a more affordable, more delicious, more friendly place for a large party. I give l&j 4 stars because of the food and the ambience. The space is really lovely. The food has always been rich and tasty, especially in the glut of thai/mexican/chinese dinner options on the northern end of greenpoint. I’ve eaten here (and done takeout) a handful of times over the years and the food’s always good. I’ve done takeout from l&j twice in the past month and it has been fantastic — especially the lamb burger, if you can handle the greasy indulgence.The reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because of the service, which is hit-or-miss — it definitely feels like a chef from the kitchen was pulled out to wait tables. Yesterday there were 4 four-tops going and the waiter looked around in bewilderment when I placed a takeout order in person.But for me, 4/5th of the restaurant rating is about the food and the ambience, and l&j has it right for me in these areas. They just need to up the service level a bit, and everything will be in place. Give it a try!
me and my family went to nyc for a 4 day vacation, and on the last night we were going to get some chineese food, but we didnt want to go into china town as it was so far from the hotel. so while me and my little brother were swiming in the pool at the skyline hotel, our parents went down to the bar, and asked about a good chinese resturant. the bartender recomended mee’s chinese resturaunt, but we found wondees and thought that our parents just mis enturpeted it. so we go in there and order. the old waiter i see alot of you complaining about was very nice to us, and most plesent. so maybe you just caught him on a bad day. i dont remember what exactly it was called that we orderd, but it was amazingly good! everything about it was a delight! i would return there in an instant!Pros + awsome foodCons – tiny area
As funny as the name sounds, Yeah Shanghai Deluxe is one of the friendlier places around Chinatown with good food, decent prices, and good service. Easily the most popular item is their Xiao Long Bao or soup dumplings, which are small with a thin but smooth skin. Their Young Chow fried rice, Shanghai flat noodle, and Crab with rice cakes are recommended dishes. The interior is a little deceiving as its long and narrow and looks like it could fit a large amount of people. There are only a few tables that can host groups of 6 or more. The decor is a little interesting, with lots of plants and even a little “bridge” that segways into the other room probably similar to the beautiful Suzhou/Hangzhou landscape.Pros + Prices, Food, ServiceCons – Bathrooms, Crowded
