Where is the Best BYOB Restaurant in Houston, Texas?
I have been a fan of Collina’s for years until now. The food is the best but my last visit was my last. First of all, there was a large party that was out of control, they were so loud that people leaving the resturant were complaining that they had lost their hearing. The new manager was so rude to my husband and I. We asked for the wine list to order a bottle when my husband told the manger what we would like he looks at the menu, took his finger and went straight to the price and said to us “no no this is no good” taking his finger (right in front of us) he locates the most expensive one on the list and says “this is what you should have.” My husband and I are not cheap nor are we stupid!! THEN, when we are having dinner he comes to the table and after some chatting the topic of birthdays comes up. I mention that we have had three 30th Birthday Parties here and we may have mine here in July. He says “WHAT, you’re 29?!?” I said “yes, why?” “I thought you were alot older tha
I went for the first time for lunch on Saturday. I order the gyro and liked the meat but I don’t like that it is rolled up like a burrito. I prefer the pita folded in half and filled. The rice was probably the best rice in town. However, my biggest let down was the pita bread. It was really thin, dried out and hard. You can tell it is bought and not made there and they should purchase it daily so it is fresher and not hard and crusty. I would go back if they had soft, fresh pita, especially since you can get great food and not crusty pita a few blocks down the road. What is a good mediterranean place without good pita bread? Also, they could use a little music in the background. It is a small quiet place so without a little music you cannot do anything but overhead everyone around you. Cons – Little Parking
When Mama first opened Santa Barbara’s and was doing all the cooking it was excellent. It is still great, but I don’t think all the dishes have the taste they used to have. She still makes the best chicken caesar salad anywhere, but even it isn’t as good as it used to be. She used to have the best bread, but over the years it has changed. She is still very small, but she is still good. I recommend this one for anyone that enjoys a good meal, even if a little pricey.Pros + Good Food, Good Service
I actually signed up for a CitySearch account just so I could give Lucio’s the kudos it deserves! I am from Canada, most recently Montreal, and have found restaurant food in Houston underwhelming at best. Not so at Lucio’s though…I rarely go out of my way to return to local eateries for a second go, but have been to this fabulous place 6 + times and counting! It is my go-to restaurant when planning get-togethers with friends, birthday parties, or just a nice evening away from my own kitchen. The food is delicious, and the staff is courteous and attentive beyond compare! I must also add that I am both gluten and lactose intolerant, and have never had a problem placing special orders here. I have even ordered “off menu” and asked the chef to prepare me special dishes on occasions when I’ve had cravings for certain ingredients, and have been catered to every time! Fairly disasterous, there was no one to welcome us at the door, and we had to search around the house with the other parties to find someone who knew where we were to be seated. Most of the employees had no knowledge of the reservation list in order to guide us to a table. Once seated at 19:45, it took 45 minutes for the beligerent owner to greet us and to receive any sort of appetizer or water. By the time our main course arrived, it was 22:30, and too late to enjoy the meal, which, on the positive side, at least, seemed well prepared. The word customer service is not in this restaurant’s vocabulary.The party next to us was rowdy. Trashy and drunk, they provided us with an adult floor show, filled with the drama and language of a Jerry Springer episode out of control. The owner did nothing to quell the riot, even when they broke the glass out of one of the 90 year old doors.
