La Vista has a cult following as one of the most wine friendly restaurants in town. Offering BYOB with modest corkage fee, it’s a great place to gather with friends and enjoy your favorite wines. On sunny days and weekends, the crowds come here in droves, forcing waiting patrons into the parking lot, where the restaurant sets up a seating area complete with plastic chairs and tables. Heck, most people break out their bottles in the parking lot, causing the general merriment to spike upward quickly. That’s probably the best thing about La Vista – every time I’ve been there, everyone is happy and friendly. On one occasion, the table sitting next to us offered us what was left over of their pizza, and in exchange, we poured them a taste of one of our wines. Sometimes you almost feel like you’re at a big dinner party the way people mingle in the restaurant!! Now to the food. The bread here is to-die-for, so all you Atkins dieters, beware. Saw a description for Mint Cafe on Citysearch and decided to try it out. What a great little place! We decided to order a few appetizer plates, thinking we wouldn’t have any trouble polishing them off. Wrong! The portions were HUGE! I found the Hummus to be a bit bland, but they probably have some of the best Baba Ghanouge that I have tasted – you could tell the eggplants had been roasted, which totally brought out the flavor. The Kibbeh is not worth ordering, but the Ardishawki (steamed artichoke with light garlic, olive juice, cilantro and lemon juice was amazing – beautiful and totally worth the effort of eating! The Grilled Halloum was nice and tasty as well as the Kafta Kabob Halabi (although the halabi part, “spicy sauce” was basically a red bell pepper blend, the grilled meat was delicious). I was utterly delighted with this find and can’t wait to go back again. Oh yeah, and one thing that is not mentioned on any advertising is that it is BYOB!Pros + Yummy FoodCons

When I’m feeling down, I’m one of those people who drowns in food, or more specifically, desserts. Enter Ruggles Cafe Bakery, a kind of dessert heaven that always manages to cure my blues. Located in the Rice Village with ample parking, a large patio, and window-facing booths, Ruggles Cafe Bakery is my low-key antidote to whatever’s making my day ho-hum. My orders invariably stay the same: a hot, crispy, lusciously creamy, super tasty white chocolate bread pudding topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream – with just enough decadence to help me wallow in my sorrows and just enough sugar to pull me out of them – and a large cup of cappuccino with their signature chocolate dipped spoon. The dessert counter always offers numerous other mouth-watering dessert choices and I’ve tried many – red velvet cake, tres leches, chocolate cake, to name a few – but the white chocolate bread pudding tends to far surpass the others in its ability to bring me back to my happy place. go here if you want a charming not quite hole-in-the-wall italian dining experience in the midst of seafood joints galore. best enjoyed outdoors on the patio in front of the restaurant over red wine (BYOW: bring your own wine … also there’s a conveniently placed alcohol store next door) and good company. the food is decent, i’ve had better quality at other cozier italian restaurants. i also love how they display the food out on a table for all to scrutinize and ultimately pick a dish more to their preference. overall, if you just want to enjoy the weather and share stories with friends, this is the place to go. fyi: coffe oasis in just within walking distance if you want to grab some coffee and catch some live music after dinner.*Pros + outdoor patio, bring your own wineCons – food quality, not cozy
