Where is the Best BYOB Restaurant in Chicago, Illinois?
To me, there are very few places in Chicago that offer “good” Thai cuisine. Some places I’ve seen offer you a box of noodles or rice, throw in some meat and vegetables and sauce (along with a almost a half a cup of oil), and them calling it Thai food. It’s NOT the case with this place. I’ve been going here since 98 when I was taking class from the “Martial Arts” school down the street and the “grandmaster” took us all to lunch as part of our “training” (notice the ” ” around the words; I don’t consider them a “Martial Arts school” anymore, but that’s another review). Anyway, since then I’ve always considered this place to be the standard for all Thai restaurants to follow. They just recently went through some remodeling and now the place looks better than before with new tabels and decor. The food though is still the same as I had it almost 9 years ago. Everything is good here, but I usually go for my favorites (chicken satay, spring roll, Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai, and/or beef Pad
The food at schwa is fantastic. We had the nine course meal and every course was good a couple the quail egg ravioli and the lamb with green curry couscous were absolutely phenomenal.Remember its BYO we polished off eight bottles of delicious wine and if you want actual wine glasses you have to bring those too. The restaurant has tumblers theyll let you use if you dont want to or forget to pbring your own.If you like nice restaurants because of the environment the service etc etc then think schwa might not live up to your expectations. If you want creative well-executed and delicious food then I think youll love schwa.
On the outside, Sushi X looks like it’s a club. Long waits, dark interior, sometimes blaring music….But this place has the best sushi! I’ve been hearing about this place for a while from a friend of mine saying the decor is a little off the norm but the sushi is fabulous. I recommend the Honey Roll and the Red Dragon. The pieces just melt in your mouth in a huge burst of flavor. I even liked their non sushi entrees like the Creamy Ginger Salad. AND best of all, it’s BYOB. If you love sushi…this is definitely a place you should try out. Be prepared though, since it’s gaining popularity, waiting for a table can take more than an hour.Pros + Great quality food, BYOB, great atmosphere, friendly staffCons – Long wait for a table, parking can be difficult, not ideal for large groups
There were some allegations sent out on January 8,2008 via e-mail regarding food catered by Nuevo Leon Restaurant. Nuevo Leon Restaurant is a well respected family business located at 1515 w. 18Th Street.It has been in business for over forty- six years(1962).Over the years,the restaurant has served,and maintained thousands of satisfied customers,many of them have been coming to the restaurant for years and some of them come on daily basis.Our employees are also exceptional. Nuevo Leon Restaurant was accused of catering contaminated food for twenty-five people on November 17,2007 from which fourteen people supposedly got sick .There werenever any samples taken or any reports from doctors or hospitals of anyone being admitted for bad food from such event. Our restaurant was never closed for business for this allegation. On November 17,2007 we had other catering orders with the exact type of food and no one came back with a complaint.
