It was sometime that month and year my uncle gave me a dollar and told me to go to HRI for a pizza. Was told to bring back a small cheese and bring back the change. When I came back I heard complaints of taking so long. No one thought of calling in advance so I had to wait for the pizza. Finally came back with the pizza and gave my uncle his change, a nickle. Had my first piece of pizza that day. A center piece and it filled me up. Its been over 59 years since that day, I still remember some of the people that worked there and still remember one person that still works there, “Little Eddie” who manages the Darien store. Seen people work, retire and some pass away from HRI. Like the old motto goes, “You’ve tried the rest, now try the best”. My Wife and I are up there in the years but we still go to one of the HRI’s every so often. Could you stories that you wouldn’t believe but that would take quite awhile

Review is for 2942 N. Lincoln Ave location Although a steak house, my wife and I (both vegetarians) tried the paella here and were blown away. It was loaded with vegetables (brocolli, beans, Yuca, etc) and came with four fried green plantains (not the overripe sweet plantains). We also had sweet plantains with sliced Guava and melted cheese… amazing. The guava plays off the subtle sweetness of the plantains very well (i will definitely serve this at my next dinner party). Service was friendly and attentive (they brought us an appetizer we didn’t order, let us keep it, but didn’t charge us for it!) Meat dishes are clearly the preference for most patrons, but the appetizers are nearly all vegetarian and the veg. paella is awesome. We got a 2-person order of paella ($24) and two appetizers (~$6 each) and had half the paella to take home! We went to the 2942 N. Lincoln Ave location.

What a great time! My husband and I were given special attention as were others also celebrating an anniversary or birthday, and at no extra charge. The DJ had everyone involved, laughing and dancing. She made the day. The food (baked tilapia, roasted veggies, glazed chicken, and a wonderful alfredo style pasta) was excellent. There was even turtle cheesecake among the desserts! Using the Entertainment Guide, we paid only $42 for two of us on a lunch cruise. Can’t wait to go again, and I don’t even mind paying full price.
