Where is the Best Brunch in Portland, Oregon?
I took my friend to Tin Shed for breakfast on a Friday morning. Surprisingly there were a lot of people there, and quite a few waiting. They told us to help ourselves to coffee while we waited, which was nice. Our wait wasn’t super long since we opted to sit in the outside dining area (which had heaters above, so it wasn’t so bad even though it was just under 60 degrees outside at the time). Food was good, and came out pretty quickly. The prices weren’t cheap, but not ridiculous either. I’d come back. Pros + Friendly staff, good food, lots of vegetarian options.Cons – Parking could be an issue at times due to the neighborhood.
This is by far one of my favorite Portland restaurants. Let’s start with the drinks..the Rhett Butler and the Porch Swing Lemonade are incredible…not too sweet with just enough flavor…sometimes I do ask for less sweetness in the Rhett Butler though. Note: The porch swing lemonade has chunks of fresh sage in it, so stay away if you dont like sage..I happen to LOVE it in this drink.Now on to the food…the fried chicken is some of the best in town and the house made hot sauce on the tables is the best with it. They always have delicious local organics to choose from if you want a salad, soup, etc. The brisket is delicious and the pecan crusted trout is incredible. It is great for groups but you have to get there like 30-40 mins early and put your name in if you have a group of say 6-10. We went last weekend with a group of 8 and only had to wait for an hour (put my name in at 7pm). Also, there are plenty of vegetarian options for those interested.Screen Door is hands d
I’ve been there twice and the first time i had a great expierance. I went with my husband during happy hour and ordered the onion rings and the chicken sandwich. They were big portions and they were only 3 dollars each! They were very tasty too. The restaurant is in a beautiful location with a fabulous view of the river. There is a patio outside which is great on sunny days. The decor inside is chic and attractive as well as most people that dine there. I did not have any problems with the service either, that is, the 1st time i went. The second time i went was in July in 2006. I took a friend from Cali that was visiting and i was so embarrased! We went to the bar and had the absoulute worst service ever! We ordered our drinks at the bar which took forever to be served and then we were never approached after that. We waited and waited. I give this place only 4 stars – because I left hungry and because I couldn’t order a glass of red wine for under $10 a glass. I was told that since Simpatica is associated with the Laurelhurst Market, a self contained butcher shop/restaurant, I could expect a generous serving of meat. Not true. I was hungry when I left. (I went next store to Biwa where I had a couple of hanger steak skewers for $3 each.)The meat, was excellent, Wagyu Bavette Steak, thin slices of buttery soft and delicious meat that had been with roasted on a mesquite fire, served with an outstanding Chimichurri sauce and perfectly cooked fingerling potatoes. Can’t complain about the flavor and the quality but the portion was not for the true carnivore. The night’s meal also featured two types of empanadas.
