Where is the Best Brunch in Chicago, Illinois?
I order Penny’s for lunch frequently in the winter. They make a Chicken with Vegetable Soup that tastes just like your grandmother did when you were a kid. In addition, they also make homemade bread daily. Great comfort food, especially for when you are sick. Pros + Chicken Soup, Fast and Friendly Service
I’ve only visited for breakfast, as I’m lucky enough to live just a couple of blocks away, and the menu contains old favorites as well as creative twists, primarily with a Mexican flair. I live in the same neighborhood as Ann Sather’s and Pauline’s, which are some darned popular breakfast spots, but given the choice, I’ll always pick Over Easy for their service, as it is some of the most cheerful and attentive that I’ve received in Chicago, and I eat out 5 or 6 times a week.If you’re a vegetarian, you can substitute veggie sausage or try their vegetarian chilaquiles! Perhaps try their corn cakes (contain eggs) with special red pepper sauce or syrup. Give them a try. They are definitely worth it.Pros + Service. Creativity. Flexibility.Cons – The dining room can get filled up to overflowing at brunch. Try them for breakfast during the week!
Try to sneak in here anytime other than a weekend if you want the most amazing, bigger-than-your-head dutch pancakes (the puffy, volcano-like kind) you’ve ever had. You’re already blowing the diet, so go ahead and get the apple — you won’t regret it. Only problem is this place is so popular that you just can’t avoid an hour wait on the weekends (even when I got there once at 7:30am!). Pros + great breakfast foodCons – too popular, extremely long waits
