Where is the Best Brunch in Chicago, Illinois?
The novelty of the frushi and the fresh squeezed juice are cute…but there was not much else to get me to come back for more.I’ve been tasting all the brunch spots in chicago over the past few months and this one came highly recommended. I went, excited to see what all the fuss was about, and when we got there, the first thing that struck me was the decor. It seemed half-hearted: as though they bought the can of orange paint and a bushel of oranges and got just plain tuckered out after that. The service was fine, nothing fancy and the food looked better than it tasted. Compared to the brunches i’ve had throughout the country, the food didn’t hold up. The concept works, but they need to back it up a little more in the kitchen. My asparagus was old and stalky, the rest of the omelet was, well, just an omelet. the potatoes were good and well-seasoned. overall, it’s not the magical brunch-time delight I was led to believe it was. the restaurant is serviceable, but i’m not as e
Yes the view is very nice, (more on that in a sec) and the food isn’t bad. But, two different employees, one at check in, referred to us as ‘guys’. (We are a middle aged couple, and my wife is clearly not a ‘guy) Topping that off, however, was the host who was walking around through the restaurant checking on table vacancies chewing gum. Possibly there was a shortage of staff last night and they sent over a few people from Ed Debevic’s to work. That could be the only excuse for this attitude from staff.Initial service was very slow. We sat for almost 10 minutes before the first waiter came by with the menus, and ask for drink orders. No water yet, or bread. (no bread basket, someone comes around and gives you a roll. Actually, he was about the most efficient employee all evening)The initial waiter came back about 5 minutes later and explained some of the specials, and took our drink order. A few minutes another waiter came by and mentioned specials for the night, included some t
The food is great. I’ve never had a bad server either. They are always very personable. I’ve had to wait a while for food. But I tried to exert some common sense and realize that what I ordered takes some time to prepare or look around and realize that the place is out of control busy. This is a great place to go when I want to relax and take my time for a meal. If I wanted fast, I can go to McDonald’s. The only complaints that I have are the idiot yuppies who have ill-behaved children. Screaming children are the last thing I want to hear when I’m hungover. Also, what is with yuppies dressing impeccably for breakfast? Do these people really have nothing better to do? I see nothing wrong with wearing nice casual clothes to breakfast while hungover on the weekends…thankyouverymuch. Those people must not live in the neighborhood.
