Where is the Best Breakfast in San Antonio, Texas?
We wanted something light for lunch so stopped for soup and a sandwich. My husband ordered apple juice to start, and our server brought a cup of ice and a juice box, complete with straw attached to the back. After getting over our shock, it took a few moments to tear the top open to pour it into the glass of ice. It was either that or try to squeeze it from the straw. The soup ordered tasted fine but once again was suprised to see our half a sandwich had hardly any meat on it. There was one very thin slice. I guess the bill was our fault for not looking more closely at the menu as our total for 2 orders of soup & sandwich (cup of soup & half a sandwich) with juice cost us $23!. But get this, that little juice box cost us $2.50. What??The service was good but I would not recommend if you are watching your budget.Pros + good serviceCons – expensive, small portions
The Guenther House had been recommended to me by friends and my husband and I were delighted we took their suggestion to stop in for breakfast. The service was wonderful; friendly, accurate and prompt. My husband had Guenther’s Favorite Breakfast Platter ($8.75) and I had the Breakfast Tacos ($6.75). The food was amazing – the biggest, most fluffy biscuits we’ve…
My first trip to Earl Abel’s was shortly after I moved here, early this year. A friend and I went there for dinner, and both meals – while a bit expensive, comparatively speaking – were excellent: fresh, well-prepared and ample portions. In the intervening months, I’ve eaten three additional meals here (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and have been sorely disappointed. First, the restaurant itself has kind of a funky odor: not quite curdled milk and not quite rancid cooking oil, but something similarly unappetizing.Second, the decor – if it can be called that – is a mish-mosh of disparate elements. While I appreciate some of it (the Burma Shave signs and the retro vinyl booths, for instance), the rest of it is just bizarre to me….and the life-sized Jeeves mannequin is downright creepy!!Third, the food has been just so-so, at best. And finally, Earl Abel’s is considerably more expensive than any other place of the same caliber.I guess it is a beloved institution for many
I have always enjoyed Cracker Barrel and would make it a treat when I work late and get off early in the mornings. I would stop for a hearty breakfast…biscuits are tender, fluffy and hot. I would always ask for the homemaded apple butter, delicious. I also like their potato casserole. The service is good, friendly, but if you get there late, especially on the weekends, there will be a wait. I like roaming through the store and looking at the old time decor. And as a habit I almost always pick up an old fashion sweet treat that I remember my dad buying for me as a kid. Good hearty old fashion downhome cooking…like mom use to make.Pros + Homecooking like mom’s and homemaded apple butterCons – Can get very busy, crush and rush
