Where is the Best Blues Club in New York, New York?
A ton of us shoved ourselves into a corner on a couch that looked like it had been dumpster dived. We were surrounded by other furniture that looked like all the stuff someone couldn’t get rid of on eBay. The lightbulb above the table didn’t work. After half an hour, I complained to the doorman who was collecting the $3 cover. An hour latter, somebody from the bar came to look at it, gave the ON switch a pull. When nothing happened he shrugged… twice… and walked away. “Food” was a notebook filled with take-out menus of nearby restaurants. Booze was order at the bar. This basement club packed with pool tables, ping pong tables, chess board tables, you name it. A CitySearch review called it Granddad’s basement. I’d say that… times 10. We had a great pool game with no discernible rules. Just enjoy yourself and aim for a hole! (A good philosophy of life, I’d say!) It’s a dive, but if you’re with a lot of people, is as fun as you wanna make it. –Drink Club NYC is a ro
I’ve been goingto this place for 3 years now, feel badi havent written a review yet. they have somethign for everyone. Live music, art, hip hop, house, good drinks, good food, friendly neighborhood vibe. Big stars pass through too. going there tonight. LOL. Pros + food, drinks, atmsphere, varietyCons – some nights are a little weaker than others
Other than the very loud atmosphere, the place was fantastic. THE ATLANTIC SALMON MADE MY MOUTH WATER. thumbs up!! brought a date there and she enjoyed herself as well…. the only thing i’d consider changing is the noise level. tune it down a notch. otherwise, food-phenominal. service-very welcoming. decor-beautiful.
Didn’t really know what to expect when we went to this place, but I definitely didn’t expect the jazz to be so loud an ongoing as it was. I’ve been to many other jazz dinner shows where sound was controlled better, but I guess since the space is small the acoustics just make the music pound off the walls and create a very loud, booming experience. Anyway, the food was very good, we had a seafood platter special, which we liked. Our waiter was a little weird and bumbling, but that was no big deal. One annoying thing was that we brought our own wine and since the bottle was large than a normal wine bottle (our group was 8 people), the corkage fee was doubled for like $25 to $50. I thought maybe they would up it to 30 or 40 bucks, but $50? We talked the owner/manager down a little since that was unexpected, and I think he charged us like $40 or $45 after all, but it was still a whammy.Pros + good seafood specialCons – weirdness
I found The Bitter End while traveling in 1991. I loved the atmosphere and the music. I have since returned to New York 5 times and each time I have gone back. It is a classic place with a lot of history and good times. It’s a great crowd and good value. There are quite a few bands that play throughout the night so if you don’t enjoy one there are more to come. If only I could smoke and not have to go outside this place would be perfect! If you’re looking for a cozy bar with good tunes then this is the place. If you’re looking for a trendy, dance club crowd then you probably won’t like it. The only improvement they need are the bathrooms. There a couple of bathrooms and they are unisex. I didn’t really have a problem with this though.
