Where is the Best Blues Club in New York, New York?
I just went out on a date in this little lounge bar the other night. It was beautiful. The lighting, the furniture, the atmosphere. Its small enough to be comfy, but roomy enough to be luxurious. The service was pleasant and quick. It was a great place for a first date. The only complaint I have was the bathroom was a little dirty. I realize that that is pretty common all over New York, so it wasn’t that big of a deal. It won’t stop me from coming back to this place. I really loved it. Pros + decor and serviceCons – bathroom
The next time I get the chance to recommend entertainment options for friends, family or business associates planning a trip to New York City, I will include Birdland first thing. When you consider all the various aspects of a “jazz club” experience, especially when it’s a special occasion justifying a bit more expense, GO TO BIRDLAND! We’ve been to the “cozier” spots in the Village, and the “authentic” places in Harelm, and the new joints in mid-town, so we’ve got some perspective. Birdland did the best job of providing the ambience, quality of performance and drink/dining options to which we look forward. Jame Carter performed with his organ trio (the guy on the Hammond B3 could replicate Manhattan Transfer’s vocal stylizing) and blew the room away. Carter plays FOUR instruments with equal virtuousity and looked great doing it in his wide striped business suit. And then, there is the food. Each time our friend cut into her herb chicken the delightful aroma was released. My cr
DMANBURGER “Blue Smoke”February 14, 2010 Ever since I started writing about burgers, people have harped on me to try Danny Meyer’s contribution to the burger world. I doggedly avoided patronizing the obvious invention of Shake Shack, opting not to anguish in long lines and potentially overrated smash burgers. Today I decided to sample his other beef emporium, Blue Smoke. This mouthwatering St.Louis natives BBQ joint features signature “cue” favorites such as ribs, beef, fowl, southern vegetable sides, mac and cheese and home-style desserts and pies. Their Blue Smoke burgers are on the list as a must try on many restaurant critics lips and today was my privilege to give Chef Kenny Callaghan and the genius restaurateur Danny Meyer’s creation a shot to see what the boys have learnt. As I followed the manager to my table, I admired the factory/abattoir chic decor, surrounded by red-hot oversized booths, steel and concrete fixings and large close-up photos of pickles, potato, and various ot
I would have never thought that I would find myself writing a positive review for Saphires but I guess this is why one should never say never…..I was kind of skeptical going into it because I never particularly liked Sapphires too much because I always thought their drinks were too expensive considering they’re served in plastic cups and not only that but I don’t particularly care for too much rap either and there were quite a few rap artist performing that night. But anyhoo, my girlfriend had taken me to the show because she said I just had to see this lady called Joya perform. Well, my girlfriend certainly wasn’t lying about this Joya chick, she was freakin AMAZING! Fo’ Real! Talk about a power-house voice!!! She sounded as though Mary J Blige & Patti Labelle had an offspring! Moving on…….Now, I had been there to see her preform but what really shockingly surprised at was just how much I enjoyed everybody else! All the rap artist just had the entire place HYPED… BIG TIME
Sometimes, you just gotta go to Acme Underground. Mostly, that’s because your best friend’s band is playing there, or if you’re really unlucky, because your OWN band is playing there. The sound is subpar and the bands are forced to load in their gear in the hallway, but at least the drinks are relatively cheap. Buy some, you’ll need ’em.
