Where is the Best Beer Selection in Austin, Texas?
This is by far my favorite pub in town. No pretenses. Its refreshing to not have to deal with servers. With serves I always feel cheap when they walk around and I don’t order anything new and have only had about 2 sips from my beer. The bartenders can be hit-or-miss on friendliness. On my 21st birthday, amazing and friendly staff super willing to tell their favorites and let me try them. On my friend’s 21st birthday, the bartender was obviously annoyed when we asked for recommendations. The boy had never had never gone past Bud lite before though, so even I was a bit impatient. The beer is what makes this place. I’m happy with a Bass, but I love trying new things and at 4.50 a pint, mmmm. Imports aren’t always the best buys here either. They have lots of hidden secrets behind their bar. I can’t complain about anything, mostly because it doesn’t falsely advertise anything. In fact, does it actively advertise anything or to anyone at all? And on a strange note: I love the huge Bavarian f
I generally go on a Thursday for the discounted Mexican Martinis, which are great! The drinks are always good, the service is very quick, and the food is fresh and inexpensive. For a casual, cheap, relaxing meal – I definitely recommend Jorge’s. So many Austin Mexican restaurants are hard to get into without a long wait and even then you feel like your server is juggling a million things at once – but this is never the case with Jorge’s. I rarely have to wait to be seated, the food is very hot and fresh and well seasoned and the drinks are the best. Pros + mexican martinis, good service, prompt seatingCons – none really
I found Siver and Stone while driving through downtown Georgetown. Boy am I glad I did! My wife and I went to the top of the building and enjoyed the best view of the N.Austin in the area. Six stories up and a wrap around porch. I plan on going back and watching the fireworks after the Friday Express games. We both shared the mushroom appetizers and each had a glass of wine. They were fantastic! The mood was causual but not too casual. They also had a band that was playing on the patio to help ease you into the weekend. I do plan on going back for brunch on Sunday. If the brunch menue was as tasty as the happy hour bar menue, I will not be disappointed. I strongly suggest goiing. I give it a 5 star rating and I will return! Pros + food, happy hour, view
I cannot recommend this place enough. Here’s why: it’s very different from anywhere else. First off, it’s a private local business, not a chain, so they get to call their own shots. Which translates to: drink beer in the PARKING LOT while sitting in the back of your car or a lawn chair. Very dog friendly. Great private location: very hard to find the first time, but there’s no traffic, so you can stumble around freely. I’m not sure how this place deals with TABC and open container law…but nowhere else have I heard of being able to take your drink outside in the parking lot!! They also microbrew some of their tap beer. Nightly specials include house beer at $2.50 a pint. Every once in a while they’ll have Double IPA on 2.50 special, which is a very strong beer. Food is delicious. There are pizza options and a bowl of finger pub grub, which is an amazing mixture of pretzels and other delicious unnamed things. I’ve seen people bring in their own snacks and chips, so they’re not stri
Location/Parking: Great location close to campus and fairly good location for downtown workers although that’s not whose there. Parking gets rough during the normal busy times. Drinks: Beer and Wine Only which is great for keeping the right crowd in and the wrong crowd out. Extensive beer selection sorted by country on a huge menu on the wall! Crown kills the competition by serving the needs of cheap domestic beer lovers ($7.25 pitchers standard) and excentric Bittburger / Optimator swillers. Food: As noted in other reviews, the burgers are what many people come for. I consider them to be the best in Austin, regardless of price, considering their taste and freshness. Also great are the chicken tacos and the black bean tacos, if you’re a veggie. Overall, this may be the best tavern/pub grub in town. Service: Ausitn, on average, has some of the worst service of any city I have ever been to. Service people here generally only work on their p0t breaks and exude a hate for the
