The receptionists usually greet me quickly upon entering, and I am sometimes offered a drink (I know they have water and wine available, not sure what else) even if they don’t offer, if I ask for one, they usually respond with a smile and say “of course”I recently have had a few massages with Glow. (Short for Gloria?) She has great energy about her–very animated, and yet, I was still able to relax (actually I think I fell asleep). When I had my second massage she asked if there were any ways the first could have been improved, and after I shared that I wished she’d spent a little more time on my neck previously, she had me begin lying face-up and took extra time there. I like that she listened then, and she adjusted the pressure without question whenever I asked. The room is nicely decorated, she uses hot towels in her treatments, and instead of oil–it was a cream, so it left my skin feeling soft, but not overly slippery or greasy like some other massages. It’s also nice that it’s

Traumatic childhood/teen/adult experiences taught me that while hair does indeed grow back, the interim experience tends to be brutal. Due to learning lessons the hard way, hair salons are now something I have no problem being a snob about. After a mullet experience not too long ago, I now run in the opposite direction of a friend of a friend cutting my hair or finding the ‘best deal’ on haircuts in town. I’d rather not look like Billy Ray OR Carrot Top, thank you. Jill at Venus is the only person in Houston who I trust to take shears to my hair. Sometimes I go in with a photo of a cut I want, other times I just need a few inches lopped off to get me back where I was the last time I was there. Never have I left the salon in tears or had to go back and have Jill fix her cut. The prices for haircuts are outstanding and Jill has a legion of followers. I met one the other day out of the blue and we both rhapsodized over Jill’s expertise. A fair price, awesome skills, and many fans is

I am male. My male friends tease me about being as exacting as a female celebrity about my haircut! They are somewhat justified, because I believe that your hair is an integral part of your face; it is has its own features and characterstics that are like your fingerprints – er.. hairprint. It texture and its curves and bends are like your fingerprints; no matter what you do, they quickly revert to their original natural state. Few hairdressers realise that; and even among those who do realise that, even fewer are able to manage and maintain your hair and its natural style. When I moved from Brussels (BELGIUM) to Houston, TEXAS, one of the European feature I missed was the artful and crafty work that my hairdresser performed on my hair on a fortnightly basis. However, I haircut is an item that you need as much as you need a shirt or a neck tie (and I can’t speak for women). Hence, I desperately sought the services of several different barbers, and each one just butchered and amputated

I had my hair cut and colored by Jo today for the first time. I loved the salon. It’s very stylish but comfortable and all of the staff is very welcoming. Jo was very nice. We had a discussion about what I wanted, color preference, etc. She got out hair swatches to make sure we were on the same page before she mixed up a color She was a bit rough during the coloring process but I’ve got 2 brothers so it wasn’t the worst hair pulling I’ve dealt with but I took note of it. I then did the 20 minute wait for your hair-color to set and then Diane came to get me to shampoo my hair. Diane was fabulous! What a warm person and she does a fantastic shampoo! I then had to wait another 30 min before Jo was ready to cut my hair. Again, no biggie as I’d put aside the later half of my afternoon to dedicate to this process. She sat me down and I told her that one of my main concerns was frizz. She looked at the picture I brought of the style I wanted and mentioned that it was probably go
