It’s worth every minute of the 20+ minute wait for food here, but don’t let that stop you!!! I’ve eaten a lot of BBQ in my life and Roper’s is PERFECT!!! It was so good I visited twice in two days, having different items each time. First, the #7 half-rack of ribs was perfectly sauced, incredibly tender and the perfect pink all the way through and shows the amazing smoke technique they use. The potato salad isn’t bad, too.The next day I had the #25 pulled pork sandwich. Rather than slather it in sauce and make the concept of a BBQ sandwich unusable (some places act like it’s a Sloppy Joe), there’s minimal sauce. And I mean minimal; the meat’s the star. For flavor, they rely on a wonderful blend of savory spices. There’s enough moisture to make the meat not sloppy, very tender and they don’t skimp on the amount. Another bonus is they actually PULL the pork so the strands varied in length and the meat kept the moisture and tenderness needed for a sauceless sandwich.Check out

I live in StC so we get to the Trailhead about 2-3 times a year. The dinners are okay, the burgers are very good, but the battered fish and appetizers are especially good-esp the barbecue chicken pizza (bbq sauce, chicken breast, red onions and cheese on thinnish crust-awesome, esp with beer!). And the portions sizes are filling for the price. I only drink the blonde ale, which is very good (like BudLight/Select only more robust), so I can’t tell you about their other beers. The service is sometimes slow…but that’s not necessarily unique to the Trailhead-ALL the restaurants in old StC are slow. Some more than others. I would rate the Trailhead’s service as above average on slowness and quality compared to the other restaurants in its class in the area. It seems the restaurants in old StC either want you to have a dining experience or they don’t employ enough wait staff. So keep time in mind when you visit any restaurant in old StC. The Trailhead gets unbelievably crowded on the weeke

I first tried Smokin Al’s BBQ about a year ago when I moved into the neighborhood and thought it was very good. After eating there about once a month for the past year, there has been a noticable decline in about all aspects of the resteraunt — food tastes worse, portions got smaller, and prices gone up. I would rather drive further to go to another BBQ place now, I wold not recommend them over any other decent dining, but it beats fast food.Pros + nice employees, affordableCons – smokey, bad parking, bbq sauce lacking
