Where is the Best Barbecue Food in St. Louis, Missouri?
My boys and I took a BBQ road trip. Bottom line for us was Charlotte’s Rib had the best wet ribs on our trip. The ribs, brisket, and even the chicken were full of smokey flavor. The pulled pork was great! We bought 2 bottles of their Mild Hickory Barbeque Sauce – by far the best bbq sauce we have ever tasted. We are from Michigan. We read about Charlottes Rib in a couple of books. We planned to stop there for lunch on our way to KC. It was described as a run down building in a bad part of town that had great BBQ sandwiches, so we were not expecting much. We were VERY surprised. They were actually located in a wealthy part of town similar to Grosse Pointe and Birmingham. We arrived there after the lunch rush – around 2:00 Pm. We told the waitress about our trip asked for her recommendation. She was very friendly and suggested a combo plate with ribs, brisket, chicken, and a side of onion rings. Visiting for a HS sports tourney, we found Smoki O’s on the web and saw that it was close to our hotel near the Arch. Traveled up 4th St to N Brdway past the Edw Jones Centrer and found the place. Don’t worry about what it looks like…the people are great inside and thre food is special. We had hoped to be able to eat there but there are no inside tables. There are some counters, but its not conducive to eating in. We were there in January so the outside tables didn’t work for us.We thought he menu was great. Hadn’t heard of snoot before and learned it was the back portion of the nose fried like chitterlings.The portions were very well sized-especially the rib tips. The brisket was juicy and tender, and smoked nicely. Didn’t order the slab, but I am sure it is exceptional at $18 (full). The sides were great-loved the mac&cheese and the greens. Also on the menu… a polish, wings, and pulled pork and chicken… I wish we could have tried more.And the desserts
I appreciate good bar be que and this place has potential to be the best around here. Friendly service, but not fast, and not real new looking inside, it looks really country, but its charming atmosphere. My husband and I are certified BBQ judges and have been to the Smokey Bones in Fenton on numerous occasions. Arrive early – abundant crowds at peak times, though we’ve never waited more than 20 minutes. My favorite is the pulled pork, great serving size and I always get the tender/crisp green beans and slaw ( give the big hunk of texas toast to my hubby). You’ve gotta try all 3 sauces that are always on the table. I didn’t know I liked the Carolina mustard style until I tried it ! Hubby and his friend always get the full slab of ribs so they’ll have a few leftover ribs for a late night snack. Monthly beer specials and lots of variety . Never been able to make it to desert but I hear those little fried doughnut thingys are great.
