Where is the Best Barbecue Food in San Diego, California?
I’ve been to Magnolia’s MANY times and it reminds me of food right out of my Granny’s kitchen back home in the MAGNOLIA STATE (a.k.a. Mississippi)!!! I love to cook southern food, but if you know anything about cooking southern food from scratch…you know it’s A LOT of HARD work! So…when I’m not in the mood to slave in a kitchen to savor the flavors of back home…I head on up to Magnolia’s and let them do the cooking for me!The staff is attentive and pleasant. The food is delicious. And the atmosphere is just right. It’s never TOO crowded…however if you have a large group, I suggest you make reservations so they can accommodate you quickly.Give Magnolia’s a try…I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
Don’t be disuaded by the strip mall location. This is hard wood, slow smoked meat. The smoke flavor of the brisket and pork was very good. Very tender also. The beans were pretty good..a little too much pepper maybe. I liked the BBQ sauce. The corn bread is pretty decent and moist. It would be better if warmed. The smoked ham was not as good as the brisket and pork but decent. The smoked turkey was a bit lacking. If I didn’t live in Denver I would not hesitate return to try some more stuff.Good value also.Pros + Very good smoked meat
Love’s is a GREAT place to bring the family. Adults and kids both love the food. I’ve enjoyed eating at Love’s since arriving in San Diego in 1977. They have the best pork ribs you will find anywhere, bar none, and I’ve tried ribs everywhere over the years. Some come close, but Love’s is the standard every rib place has to measure up to. I prefer the original glaze, but all three Love’s glazes are great. On Sundays, they have “All You Can Chicken” for $12 adults and $6 kids under 12. Literally, all the barbequed chicken you can eat, served family style with huge fries, salad or soup, and their special Love’s beans, which are great. Love’s own barbecue sauce is always on the table, and if you ask, they will bring a free side dish of the barbecue sauce warmed up. They provide complimentary refills on beverages. They have a great dessert cart, too, but we usually pass, since we’ve eaten so much by then. Kids get a scoop of chocolate or spumoni ice cream with their children’s me
My uncle and I recently had some beers and appetizers here on a Friday night. They happened to be screening the Aussie rules football championships live throughout the place, so it was pretty loud and crowded. Their decor is modern and upscale, their music is contemporary and loud, and their staff is young, Australian and attractive. They have at least a half-dozen Australian beers on tap — try the Cooper’s and the Boag’s! Their appetizers were great, too — try the Wagyu sliders and the sampler plate! My main concern with this place was the fact that they only had one very overworked bartender at our bar — she kept getting inundated with an endless stream of printouts coming from their computer system, and as a result we had to wait an eternity for our drinks. Suggestion to the management: hire more staff!Pros + Hip decor, attrractive young staffCons – Crowded, loud and expensive
