Where is the Best Barbecue Food in New York, New York?
I heard a lot about Brother Jimmy’s before I tried it recently. I heard the service was terrible and the atmosphere was a little like a frat house. I ended up sitting at the bar to try their ribs so I really can’t comment on the waitstaff. The bartender was very friendly and made some great drinks. The ribs were also above average for the city but the sides were nothing earth-shattering. I know Brother Jimmy’s makes a lot of people’s Top Ten List for BBQ joints in the city and it would make mine as well for the ribs but it’s hard to give it a complete review since I was only there once and ate at the bar. I would go back to try their pulled pork and brisket since the atmosphere was not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It’s a fun place with good ribs.Pros + Ribs, bartender
Ate here for lunch on a Sunday and was immediately seated. I ordered a 2 meet plate (ribs and pulled pork) with mac and cheese and collard greens and my wife ordered the Brisket with roasted veggies and mac and cheese.THe rib were extremely good. Best i have had in NYC. Unlike most places they were served dry and were cooked perfectly, meet still firm but not jerky like (aka blue smoke). The pulled pork was ok, it wasn’t drenched is sauce like most places do it but it didn’t have much flavor.. The sides were excellent, the mac and cheese is probably the best I’ve had period and the collard greens were well balances (most places have it too vingerery or too smokey)My wife’s brisket was ok to thinly sliced for my taste. the roasted vegetables must have been good since i couldn’t get a sample of it.The only reason i gave this 4 start is the price. It is very pricey and while you get a lot of food for the price it still doesn’t justify the high price. However it is cheaper than man
Went to R.U.B. last night, here goes: Beer selection was very good, we waited a good hour to sit(on a saturday night, that was expected)the staff was a little harried but helpful.I had the pulled pork sandwich, it came on a nice roll and was not bad.The beans were a little too spicy, and didn’t need to be. The cornbread was off the hook, but the fries were overspiced and soggy. It seemed the food was a bit oversmoked and overspiced but , overall, ok.I would reccomend going midweek, when its a little less crowded.
