DMANBURGER “Blue Smoke”February 14, 2010 Ever since I started writing about burgers, people have harped on me to try Danny Meyer’s contribution to the burger world. I doggedly avoided patronizing the obvious invention of Shake Shack, opting not to anguish in long lines and potentially overrated smash burgers. Today I decided to sample his other beef emporium, Blue Smoke. This mouthwatering St.Louis natives BBQ joint features signature “cue” favorites such as ribs, beef, fowl, southern vegetable sides, mac and cheese and home-style desserts and pies. Their Blue Smoke burgers are on the list as a must try on many restaurant critics lips and today was my privilege to give Chef Kenny Callaghan and the genius restaurateur Danny Meyer’s creation a shot to see what the boys have learnt. As I followed the manager to my table, I admired the factory/abattoir chic decor, surrounded by red-hot oversized booths, steel and concrete fixings and large close-up photos of pickles, potato, and various ot

Pros What you see is what you get. Total dive bar with all the props and smells of spilled beer. Cant go wrong with cheap PBR in a can. Prices were dirt cheap considering its located in the Meat Packing District. Waitresses multi-tasked flawlessly and the food came out quickly. The place felt comfortably white trash. The residents were both friendly and funny.Cons For a dive there wasnt enough beer variety. The jukebox randomly kept playing annoying country music. After the meal I felt extremely guilty.Overall Its sad to hear The Hog Pit will be losing its lease in January 2009. Had I known I would have came more than just once with friends and family. The jalapeno poppers were clasically delicious while the mac n cheese was to die for. The fried chicken was not as crispy as I had hoped but the inside was juicy nonetheless. The sleeper hit had to be the cabbage and bacon. The cabbage had the texture of chinese chow fun infused with bacon but was very oily and found myself frequently sh

went here for the first time last night. Ordered the Two Step dinner special with my girlfriend which basically has every meat on the menu and comes with two sides, allowing us to try a lil bit of everything and eliminate the hassle of the whole meal ticket concept . its a really good deal for the price considering how much food they give you. The line to get our food was pretty short so we got all of our food in about 10 minutes or so which was nice. they wrap all the meat in butcher paper and put it on a cafeteria tray, this would be a problem later. the food: the brisket and chicken were very good, both tasty and juicy. the ribs on the other hand fell short. the pork rib was kinda bland and the beef rib was so tough it was like trying to chew through a tire and also did not have that much meat on it. the sides were perhaps the best thing of the night, mac n cheese and collared greens were both really good.the problem with the butcher paper on the tray is that when you cut int

A baby of the city’s B.R. Guest clan, Wildwood Barbeque lets you dine in rustic barn charm with a modern New York twist – dim track lighting, clean vaulted wood beams and cathedral-like setting. From the warm southerly greeting to the white dishcloth napkins and old-fashioned Mason jars, the scene is perfect for taking in some Carolina pulled pork or moist brisket. Sitting in the polished, low-lit barn, you’ll find on wood tables an array of homemade barbecue sauces – including Sweet & Spicy Chipotle barbecue, and Chef Big Lou Elrose’s secret sauce, which perhaps he developed during his famous stint at Hill Country. The TV-lined 50-foot bar, wood bar tables, and a wall that opens in warm weather make this a great spring game-watching spot. The southern drinks, endless beer and bourbon menu are a treat for the weary – either from shopping at nearby Union Square or just working upstairs. While my Carolina pulled pork and brisket were ordered on the “moist” not “lean” side, I did

I was at Lonestar for an end of the year party and the place is absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately it rained so we didnt get to take full advantage of the yard but my friends and I definitely plan on going back. By the time I got there the buffet was finished and my girlfriend and I ordered some food from the kitchen. The menu only had a few items but the ribs we ordered were hands down the best I’ve ever had.Great music. Staff was extremely friends. Only one bathroom stall-ladies roomPros + Awesome staff, beautiful yard, great musicCons – Limited menu
