This Famous Dave’s is the sit-down type, not the give-your-order-at-the-window type, which was a nice surprise. The hostess greeted us and …

This is NOT a smokehouse, it’s a grill. That said I had the ribs & chicken. Both had a little too much “crust” from the grill on them for my taste which overpowered the flavor of the food with that charcoal taste. The chicken was a little dry but other than that, it was good GRILLED food, not what I would call smoked or smokehouse style BBQ. The beans were OK, the potato salad was good. It’s not really fair to rate their food on a BBQ scale as it’s more “backyard BBQ” style, but here’s my best attempt out of 10.Ribs: 6Chicken: 5.5Potato Salad: 7Beans: 4I had a pleasant experience with the staff and didn’t experience any of the negative comments that I read prior to going there. The place was clean and everyone seemed friendly. It’s also right off the Light Rail, so doable from downtown if you have some extra time. Pros + Clean, Nice, By the RailCons – Not really "Smoked", Little out of the way but not bad.

In the mood for serious, smell-the-grills-from-the-parking-lot BBQ? Find this local gem, it’s worth the drive. Tucked inside a small mixed-use building on Shoreline Drive (Cty. Rd 15), it’s easy to miss driving toward Mound. Seating around 50 people (nearly all Lake Minnetonka locals) the atmosphere is low key and very casual. Local owners clearly sunk their money/attention into the food and not into ambiance… the TVs mounted awkwardly at the ceiling corners are distracting, but views of the Lake balance what’s missing inside. The BBQ pork and beef ribs are substantial, with a zesty homemade sauce that is memorable. Love their BBQ pulled pork sandwich. Made from scratch garlic mashed potatoes and a hearty german potato salad are favorites. Complete dinner with the fabulous daily selection of homemade pies and deserts. The service is warm and attentive, and are well versed on the Lake Minnetonka area. Pricing is reasonable.Pros + Quiet, Great food, Reasonable PricesCons – Ambian

The decor is absolutely decadent. I ordered a grilled cheese with a bowl of soup. The cream soup was outstanding. However, the grilled cheese left something to be desired, like melting. A very fresh location with many lunch options. I would highly suggest this place for lunch. Pros + Great SeatingCons – White Bear Lake

I have been eating take-out from this place my entire life (usually the Mild Beef) and I love it!!! The best thing about this place is that the food never changes. The taste is always the exact same, and the menu is the same. Every other BBQ place that I have tried has paled in comparison to this wonderful place. The sauce is the best sauce ever thanks to their special recipe (that they REFUSE to share with me). Apparently only like 2 people know the recipe and the sauce is made off-site for added secrecy. But it’s worth the mystery surrounding it. Cost-wise, a meal at this place will often end up being cheaper than a meal at Famous Dave’s, and the portions are larger as well. The staff are very hospitable and extremely friendly, even when the place is packed (and it does get crowded!!!! But it’s worth it.). The inside of the place is also very clean and the pictures on the wall will make you drool!!!Pros + Service, cleanliness, quality food, excellent taste, amazing BBQ s
