Where is the Best Barbecue Food in Houston, Texas?
This was my favortie bbq place for over 20 years and now it sucks! It seems the owner has sold the restaurant to someone else and the food is not the same and niether is the price. Prices have gone up and the food has gone down. The sauce is not the same and is awful and the food doesn’t seem to be slow smoked anymore and the side bar is gone! For all those who have come to love this place I am sorry, but it is over!! I hate to see this place die, but with these changes it surely will!! I am so sad!! Awful new food, I don’t recommend this new Luther’s to anyone!! :(Pros + good parkingCons – food is awful, prices are too high, sauce has changed
Gil’s is definitely an unpretentious place, and while it doesn’t look like much from the outside, it’s definitely some of the best BBQ I’ve had in quite a while. Gil was friendly and quite attentive as he prepared our plates. The food was definitely at a value price. My husband and I both received huge portions of meat with our dinner plates. The BBQ was incredible. It managed to have enough of a “kick” to it without the spices being overwhelming. There was just enough smokiness to it to be just right, and there was a hint of sweetness without it becoming cloyingly sweet. The meat was perfectly cooked. Between my husband and I, we had sausage, beef, ribs, and pork. The ribs were at that just right stage where you can easily pull the bone from the meat. There was a great smoke flavor to everything. Throughout the meal, Gil was attentive and courteous. We stumbled on this find through a gift certificate, and we’ll certainly be back.Pros + Excellent food, great valueCons
Even the plus-size baked potatoes here are a meal in themselves. Come here ONLY if you’re really hungry! The food was good, the portions generous, and the help friendly and helpful. I wish the place was a little more “polished,” particulary the railcard, previously the bar. It’s now a BYOB place, the liquor license having gotten too expensive. Patronize places like this so we don’t have to go to Olive Garden — or all those chain restaurants! Dee’s owned it for many years, and he’s a local, hard-working business owner.Pros + Down-to-earth BBQCons – Coleslaw is boring
