Where is the Best Barbecue Food in Columbus, Ohio?
We live 2 miles from Cates. They “coupon” us all the time. We never remember to go when the coupons are still good…but it doesn’t matter. This place is not expensive for a steak place and it’s just plain good.Cate’s is a small, local place. The dining room’s not much bigger than the average family room. 20 people in there is a crowd! The wait staff easily handles this room. We’ve never waited. We’ve always been quickly and pleasantly served. We’ve always gotten free soup just for stopping in and ordering anything. The food is cooked to order and – if it’s not to your liking – it’s wisked right back to the kitchen. That’s not to say that we’ve had that problem much…one over cooked cowboy steak one time in many trips. The staff accomodates substitutions and special requests very willingly. They are accomodating in other ways too: One hot summer night, when stopping in for a steak (because they were grilling outside and attracting a crowd with the smell) we decided we were in a “
I agree with the other reviewers who complained about the service. Our server was absolutely clueless, and seemed to have a short-term memory of about 4 seconds. It took quite a while for our meals to appear too… Fortunately, the food was worth the wait. Husband’s ribs and chicken were a BARGAIN at $12. My sandwich sampler was also extremely good. Delicious fries (more please!). The place is much better since the smoking ban was introduced. Even when we were smokers, it got a bit too much. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in some great BBQ.Pros + Good food, Reasonable prices, Parking/locationCons – Service
Great Ribs! Kids night is on Wednesdays-they eat for only 99 cents! New management, new menu and new servers are making it a great place to take your family! It is true that a Happy hour is only offered in the patio and the bar area which stinks but it is half off domestic & well drinks and half off appetizers! It is located at the opposite end of Polaris and St. Rt. 3-there is hardly ever a wait on a Friday or Saturday night because most people forget it is there I think.
I was recommended by a family member to give Smokey Bones a try when visiting Columbus. My experience was definately worth while. The setup of Smokey Bones was very unique. It had a nice log cabin feel to it. The service was very good, and food was out comparitively quick. The ribs were excellent, and they are in my top five favorite ribs. The waitstaff was very good, and we were seated very quickly. Though it can be very busy. Sports games are usually on the various television sets throughout Smokey Bones.Pros + Great Ribs, Good Service, Unique Atmosphere
We hit this place 30 minutes off the airplane. Very rustic country interior. Paper towels, caddy of sauces on the table. We ordered a city sampler and a half slab of ribs. Ribs were small, moist and tasted roasted, not smoked. Prairie-fire sauce was the best. Baked beans and slaw were so-so, cornbread was small and soggy. Greens with pork were good. Their house root beer was bland – no punch to it. This must be a local favorite – I wouldn’t return.Pros + decor, portions, parkingCons – , so-so sides, price
