Where is the Best Barbecue Food in Austin, Texas?
Well I guess you could say I am kind of partial to Black’s as my family has been eating there since 1938, a scant 6 years after they opened across the street at their old location. Its close enough to Gonzales that we have been many times over the decades. I’m now 36 and have been eating there as long as I can remember. What a great family the Black’s are, and nowhere else will you feel more wecome. Often Mr. Black is right there and you may see sons Kent and Terry in the mix too. They have the “secret” to the best post oak fired ‘Que around.Thats one thing that makes living in the “post oak savannah” such a treat, as post oak (a type of wood) is plentiful, and produces great smoke, from long lasting, dense coals. Black’s just has it down pat, from the brisket to the cobbler. They also have real brisket cuts, none of this passing off shoulder as brisket that you will find in Austin. They have lean brisket which is great, but their well marbled, juicy, brisket with an authent
Took the previous reviews to heart to try out this location. As seems to be happening all over, the beef ribs are discontinued but for a great reason. Tried the fall-off-the-bones pork ribs and they were awesome, with or w/o the sauce. I’m not into spicy so I only used the regular sauce, very good!! Creamed corn is really a treat, description should be corn & cream sauce, awesome. The tamale potato salad is great, tastes exactly like the title. Hubby had pulled pork and moist brisket, both good. Tried some complimentary spicy apple slaw. It’s so, so good except I don’t like spicy. But very good. Food came out quickly, Johnny is awesome and very friendly. Pros + Great food, small intimate sitting area, TVCons – Small place
02/08/09 BBQ Fans I am so glad that i was able to eat at this great bbq restaurant before relocating in the next week. I’ve heard of the Saltlick before but never really had the urge to drive out and try it, boy am i glad that i did.with there one of a kind open pit, the smell of the bbq was phenomenal and the taste was even better. The meat was plentiful, the brisket was smoked perfectly with the very noticable smoke rings outlining the meat, the sausage was tasteful and the pork ribs were so tender that the meat was literally falling off the bone! I had my 5 year old niece with me and she had there smoked chicken, thank goodness she was nice enough to share a piece and just like she said ” it was delish!!!!” while waiting to be seated, we were able to review the menu. Since my brother has a sweet tooth, he was determined to order the blackberry cobbler, well, like all younger brothers, i followed and i ordered the the split cobbler which consists of peach and blackberry cobbl
