Where is the Best Bar Scene in Austin, Texas?
This is by far my favorite pub in town. No pretenses. Its refreshing to not have to deal with servers. With serves I always feel cheap when they walk around and I don’t order anything new and have only had about 2 sips from my beer. The bartenders can be hit-or-miss on friendliness. On my 21st birthday, amazing and friendly staff super willing to tell their favorites and let me try them. On my friend’s 21st birthday, the bartender was obviously annoyed when we asked for recommendations. The boy had never had never gone past Bud lite before though, so even I was a bit impatient. The beer is what makes this place. I’m happy with a Bass, but I love trying new things and at 4.50 a pint, mmmm. Imports aren’t always the best buys here either. They have lots of hidden secrets behind their bar. I can’t complain about anything, mostly because it doesn’t falsely advertise anything. In fact, does it actively advertise anything or to anyone at all? And on a strange note: I love the huge Bavarian f
We ate here for New Year’s Eve. Even though we showed up 40 minutes prior to our reservation, they sat us immediately. All of the staff were awesome and service was outstanding. Unfortunately, the marlin I ordered was raw in the middle. However, the manager immediately took care of it by removing my dinner from the bill ($30) and giving me a free dessert. The rest of our meal was great, although the scallops did have some grit in them.
Last night my wife and I went to Bellagio, although a little far from where we live, we couldn’t resist given all of the great reviews. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to our expectations. The atmosphere was cozy, but a little too warm for me. I had sweat dripping off of my forehead all night but, back to the food. The appetizers and salads were very good, but in my opinion it’s pretty hard to mess those up. My wife had the bistecca tuscany, which was bland at best. It tasted like something I could have made at home with some bottled ragu. I had a salmon special which was ok, but not mind blowing. The wine list seemed fine, so no disappointments there. It’s definitely going to be hard for you not to try Bellagio given the number of great reviews, but given the cost, in the end, don’t say I didn’t warn you. It’s very unlikely we’ll ever head out there again, unless it’s at the request of someone else. We were on our way to a lavendar farm to pick lavendar and had always wanted to try the Nutty Brown Cafe. We stopped and were so pleasantly surprised! We sat outside, and the shade from the large trees kept us cool in the TX June heat. The service was attentive, and the food was yummy! Great experience. This was on a weekend during the day and there was no wait. Good experience, we recommend.Pros + great outdoor seating, good service, good food
