Where is the Best Bakery in Portland, Oregon?
Been there twice (2 days apart…we were so impressed with the food the first time around). Nice decor. Very good service. Avocado salad is amazing! There’s a strong aroma of oil (esp. noticable on clothing the next day) but given that it’s a small place in an old building (poor ventilation), I’m guessing it can’t be helped. Great value for the money.PS Very good coffee too.Pros + Very good food! Very good service.Cons – Strong odor of deep frying oil (small place)
I think Marco’s is great. It’s a cute little neighborhood spot with a unique atmosphere and a lot of personality. The nightly specials are innovative and exciting. Where else can you get prime rib, halibut and filet mignon for those prices? I’ve had the same meal at other, overpriced restaurants where the quality was the same, but the menu prices were a whole lot more As for the breakfasts, the potatoes are nothing special, but everything else I’ve ever had for breakfast there was fantastic. The omelettes are huge and inventive, like the black bean omelette, and they have really good bacon and sausage. As for previous reviews, do you really think Marco’s uses wonderbread for their french toast? I hardly think that a restaurant who strives to use organic, free range and natural ingredients (as it clearly states on the front of their menu) stoops as low as that for their french toast. I wonder if you even bothered to ask what kind of bread they use? Just wondering. Pros + cu
We’ve been coming here a couple of times each week since we moved to Portland and read about their soups and salad bar in an Oregonian review. They have one of the few salad bars in town and they make everything fresh, including their own unique dressings (they have Garlic Asiago instead of everyone else’s blue cheese, an Apple Dijon Vinaigrette and a wonderful oil-free Cucumber Ginger VInaigrette unlike any other dressing I have ever had, plus several others). The Salad Bar is all-you-can-eat, but the soups are served by the cup or bowl, and although many people come here for the sour cream rich Hungarian Mushroom Soup, they always have several vegan, gluten-free soups, the most amazing being the Coconut Cauliflower Curry. If you want “fast” food, you don’t even have to wait for your server to take your order–just head for the soup and salad bar, which includes house-made corn muffins, multi-grain rolls, croutons & crackers and even rice cakes for people who can’t eat gluten (or
I love going to Maggie’s Buns!! This restaurant is not your typical restaurant like Izzy’s or Denny’s. It has a great cozy atmosphere and yes can be a little crowded but that onluy adds to the experience. It is a small town restaurant that serves fabulous food and has great customer service. It is great for just relaxing and drinking a good cup of coffee in their big comfy chairs or going out for that fabulous and surprisingly inexpensive dinner on Valentine’s Day. Their famous cinnamon rolls are to die for but get their early for they sell out quickly. It is a crazy fun and creative place they have lots of cool things to look at and thier ceiling is wavy and is painted like the sky. I would definately recommend their Seafood Chowder, they serve it on Fridays and it is absolutely awesome. It is a real soup homemade and filled with lots of fresh seafood and vegetables. Maggie (the owner) is great, she is always having fun and she seems to know every person like they had been fri
