Where is the Best Bakery in New York, New York?
I almost shed a tear when digging into my first pie at DUB. The owner claims to use only the finest ingredients and judging by the taste he’s true to his word. The pastry is exceptional, soft and buttery enough to melt in your mouth but with just enough crispness to balance each bite. The meat is soft and tender, lacking in fat. Finally the gravies and seasonings are nice and strong without overpowering one’s taste buds. For meat-lovers: try the steak ‘n’ cheese; breakfast or mince ‘n’ cheese. Vegetarians: the Tex Mex or Spinach and Feta.Good music, friendly staff, reasonable coffee, relaxed atmosphere. Pros + Good quality, authentic pies, delivery options available online
So I didnt eat many of the delightful looking desserts or buy all of the absolutely scrumptuous pre-packaged chocolates.. but I did get the hot chocolate. Which was enough to make me want to go back even though it was a long walk.. although you can enjoy it by walking along the waterfront. There were 3 hot chocolate options milk chocolate dark and a spicy version. The hot chocolate was rich and just sweet enough without overpowering the cocoa flavor. I didnt try the spicy hot chocolate there but Ive had it elsewhere its delicious. Its not spicy the way we think of tabasco sauce spicy where it burns and you need water.. anything to make it better. But its a bit of spiciness at the end of your sip that is just enough so you notice it but not overpowering. The hot chocolate was perfect for a windy day and there are some stools and chairs where you can hang out with friends before you step out into the cold.
Went there this morning expecting something spectacular based on all the hoopla. Forget it. Decent pankake, but not extraordinary. Eggs same as what id make at home or you could find at a deli. But the Peach Smoothie was by far the worst smoothie i have ever tasted in my entire life anywhere. It was pasty, flavorless, chalky and unfinishable. Operations are not smooth. If you order and want to sit down, it seems like too tall of an order for them to handle as they are highly disorganized with respect to waitress/host/cashier handling your order. At least they were this morning. Being that it wasn’t busy, its hard for me to give them a pass on that, but the food quality isn’t all that astounding at all. After reading all the reviews from a while ago, finally we made a slight detour on our way back home to give it a try. There were not too many choices in terms of cakes and tarts but I assume it was because we got there an hour before their closing time. We asked for recommendation and decided to try the “Red Hook Red Hot” and “Sweet & Salty Tart”. Oh mine! The Red Hook Red Hot was amazing. The cake was smooth and soft and the cream was light and with a hint of cinnamon. I am not a cream person and normally I scrape all off from cakes before eating… NOT THIS ONE. I enjoyed every single bite of it! The Sweet & Salty Tart was way too sweet for me since I am not a fan of caramel, however, my boyfriend LOVES it! This is a very nice little place to hang out at, without paying an arm and a leg like the cafes in Manhattan. This “restaurant” is kind of a combination french patisserie/bistro and navigating the two is bizarre, especially when the host stand is behind the patisserie section and there is no one there to greet you. But once you get seated, the menu is quite nice. Kind of an upscale bistro with some cool seasonal touches and whatnot. Nothing overwhelming or unfamiliar, just kind of out of place. I had the prix fixe lunch, by accident. The server took my order, which happened to consist of two items on the prix fixe menu for that day and I was served what I thought would be a more expensive lunch. I mean seriously, I didn’t realize this until the bill came and it was 31.00 for food, including a desert I ordered, sans wine. I seriously thought I had spent much more, much much more. The server was gracious when I told him of this and offered to pay full price. But he declined. The most AMAZING thing was, the portions were huge!
