Where is the Best Bakery in Chicago, Illinois?
Sarah’s Pastries & Candies is the cutest shop in Chicago. Even from the outside, you can tell it’s going to be a great experience. The white picket fence blocks off tables in the heart of the city (on Oak St., between State and Rush) – definitely a great place to grab a dessert and coffee and people watch. Once you walk through the door, you are greated with the friendliest faces and the most amazing aroma of CHOCOLATE. My favorite chocolate is milk chocolate royaltine – it is milk chocolate mixed with crispy Feuilletine wafer pieces and caramelized almonds. SO DELICIOUS. The bread, coffee drinks and service here are phenomenal. It’s just too bad they don’t have a seating area (so you have to take the sandwiches and so on to go). The scones, bagels and baguettes are great, but I advise the garlic ring, which comes with a garlic paste in the middle. I have a mixed review. The pineapple tres leches was a beautiful presentation of a pineapple. The added pineapple leaves was a precise touch. Although, this was not a traditional pastel (cake) de tres leches, I loved the abundance of whipped cream (++). The pineapple flavor seemed to be in the whip cream. I have previously tasted the authentic buñuelos. The bakery’s temperature is extremely warm; air conditioning seems not to exist. The prices are on the high range.
