The food at alons is very good. I am quite fond of their albacore tuna sandwich with capers on baguette. The baked goods are always top notch, especially the cookies. However, be prepared for a confusing setup. There are no clear lines.. people just crowd at various parts of the long counter.. it’s not quite clear if you are in the line for soup, sandwhiches, desserts, coffee, or to pay. The staff makes it quite clear that they can only get you what they have at their “station”, so if you are getting more than one item.. you can have a long wait. The staff can be somewhat apathetic, I don’t think they have actually been rude to me, but then they also don’t go out of their way to be friendly Another treat besides the food at Alons is one of the owners who bears a striking resemblance to Alanis Morrissette. You really have to see her to believe it.Pros + food, variety, alanis morrissetteCons – pricey, no seating, confusing lines

Southern Sweets made our wedding cake. Ashley was very easy to work with and did a phenomenal job creating just the cake we asked for. It was one of the few cakes that I have ever had that I thought actually tasted good (and it was delicious). I’ve also had many of their other delicious sweets – each is better than the one before it. This is a family-run business and it shows in the attention they give to detail, food quality, and service. I just wish it wasn’t so far away from where I live!Pros + delicious sweets, personalized serviceCons – too far from where I live

If this place had been open when I was living on Georgia Tech’s West Campus back in the early 2000’s it would have been big trouble. But, on second thought, perhaps it’s a blessing, because I’m not sure how the phone call home would’ve gone…”Mom, I’m out of money. I spent it all on unbelievably delicious doughnuts….and milk.” I probably would’ve been forced to move back home, and that would’ve really ruined my entire college experience. So when I say that these doughnuts are life-alteringly good, I mean it. So far I’ve tried the A-Town Creme, the S’mores, the red velvet, and the Oreo – and each is better than you could ever hope for. The challenge is to exercise the discipline it takes in order to eat them slowly enough to fully enjoy them. Good luck with that.Pros + tasty tasty doughnutsCons – ummmm…they probably aren’t good for you???
