Where is the Best American Food in Durham, North Carolina?
You can call us foodies and enjoy eateries everywhere we travel. We were excited that we finally had a chance to go to the MG. While the physical plant was pleasing and the hostess extremely attentive we found some very weak areas for a place opened so long.Thought we d start with a cocktail since the plane ride was so long. The server was unaware if Beefeaters was aivaiable at the bar. When she brought the dinks she inturn spilled half on the table and didn t offer to refill or correct the situation/. I had the fried oysters for an app. They were overcooked to my disappointment. Nothing like the ones at DC Coast in Washington DC or even at Cliff s In greenville NC. I then has the Stripped Bass( which had no side of veg) which was good however the portion was less then you d get at a weightwatcher convention at Gratersford prison. One of my fellow dinners had the duck which had an extremely strong soy flavoring which over powered the true flavor of the meat. My wife has the flounder
So I could tell you about the laid back atmosphere and the great service at Dickey’s, but I’m a guy and the most important thing about this place is how great the food is. You can really tell that they do use fresh meat and smoke it themselves (I could even see them “loading the pit”, as they say, for myself) because its so juicy and tender, definitely not cooked ahead of time and all dried out like other places. I liked that you could request certain cuts of beef or pork (I like mine real lean, and that’s exactly the kind of brisket I got). I got my fill on 2 sides AND hushpuppies, which made me really happy. Men will definitely leave Dickey’s full and satisfied. Oh, but I did succumb to the kid in me and got some free ice cream. I mean, who can refuse free ice cream?Pros + real hickery smoked meat
