Where is the Best American Food in Charlotte, North Carolina?

Went to the Penguin last Friday. Both of us are new to Charlotte, and after seeing a clip about The Penguin on the Food Network, I suggested that we try it. First, we didn’t know were to park, but found a dirt lot near by. There was a huge line outside, but considering there were like 14 groups ahead of us, we didn’t wait long at all. The bar has great specials, $1.50 drafts, $5.00 yeunglin pitchers; they even have firefly, which appears to be hard to find in charlotte. The food is greasy but good. Fried pickles are “the thing to get,” but neither of us were that impressed. The area around the restaurant seemed really cool and like there was a lot to do nearby. I will definitely be going to The Penguin again!Pros + food, cheap drinks, good serviceCons – parking can be tight on weekend

Barrington’s is definitely a one of a kind experience here in Charlotte. Where Charlotte is plagued with high end corporate eateries, this lone restaurant sits tucked away in a small quiet shopping center in South Park, where you wouldn’t really know where it is unless you were told about it. Somehow I think that’s what the owners wanted and it works!I’ve been here twice over the past couple of years and it seems it’s where the wealthy and well known of Charlotte choose to dine when they don’t want to be seen. From banking executives to local celebrity figures, you can probably count on seeing someone you’ve seen on TV or in the paper recently. Don’t let it fool you its not known as “see and be seen” place its more just good eats. Space is limited here, so better know which day and time you’d like to go and plan ahead. I have been lucky enough to go with some people who are so called “in” with the ownership and are regulars, so it was easy to get a table the same evening, but I ca

My husband and I decided to try out this restaurant at Ballantyne Resort for a nice evening out. I was pleasantly surprised that outdoor seating was offered on the terrace and it was a beautiful autumn day, the view was great. The food and service were excellent. The bar is modern and comfortable and has an extensive scotch selection. The bartenders are well educated on the wine and scotch. Overall experience was great from the perfectly paired wine and steak to some surprising southern favorites that were elevated in both taste and presentation than most of the restaurants in the area.
