Where is the Best After-Work Bar in Houston, Texas?
If you like beer, you like the flying saucer, there is no way around it. Boasting the largest selection of that beautiful beverage distilled from hops and barley, Flying Saucer is an adults candy store. All you have to do is gaze at the seemingly endless wall of taps behind the counter to know that you’ve arrived at your happy place, and that’s only what they have on tap, they stock a much, much larger selection in singles.Perfect for any casual occasion, you can come with a large group of friends after work, or even by yourself if you feel like unwinding and letting traffic cool down. I won’t even get into how splendid their beer selection is, because I would keep you all night reading, you have to go and sample it yourself. They also offer a wide variety of foods that pair excellently with beer, I recommend the french dip and queso personally, but you really can’t go wrong with anything that they serve. One of the things that I like about this place, apart from the awesome downtow
I don’t know where the owner’s size or gender have a relevant place in a review about a music/restaurant review. What I do know is the Mucky Duck is the best music listening room in Houston. Musicians love the place because the audience is there to – listen. If standing on concrete floors waiting on the headliner to start after midnight is your thing, there’s other places for you. The place is intimate and comfortable with excellent sight lines. If you support live music and/or a specific band then please support the venue that makes it happen. If the owner shows preference to people who are planning to eat dinner at The Mucky Duck understand that that’s the way they make their living. The musicians get ticket money. If you eat and drink somewhere else before the show, how do you suppose they keep the doors open? If the Mucky Duck were a music venue only, it rates as a treasure. Where else in Houston are you going to see first rate music and eat excellent food and enjoy a true 20 ounce
I’ve lived in Houston all my life and had yet to try Capital Grille. My lovely bf thought that Vday 09 would be a great chance for both of us to try it out. We went for the 13th to try and cut down on the crowds a teeny bit. We got lucky and snagged a parking space without valet. The restaurant was packed to the gills. We were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation time and greeted by our very pleasant and knowledgeable server Rene. The wine list is extensive with choices in various price ranges. We chose an easy drinking cab and proceeded to go over the menu. Here’s what we had:Shrimp cocktail – 5 large, fresh, dense meat shrimp served on ice with a mild cocktail sauceFilet and butter poached lobster – melt in your mouth filet, paired with tender lobster claw meat over soft mashed potatoesKona crusted dry aged sirloin with roasted shallot butter – a flavorful crust of ground Kona coffee, something different and deliciousParmesan truffle fries – like McD’s on steroi
