Where is the Best After-Work Bar in Detroit, Michigan?
I couldn’t figure out why this place is so busy all the time when it only struck me recently. Mr. B’s has cornered the market on the crowd that has no idea what they want to do for the evening. They’ve got food, drinks, TVs for watching sports, pool tables, video games, and darts. I guess that makes it a great place to go if you’ve got a bunch of friends who want to go out, but can’t pick between a pool hall, sports bar, or restaurant. The problem with Mr. B’s, is that they don’t do any of those things well. The pool tables aren’t well kept, the food is pretty bad, and shape of the place makes it hard for it to be a good sports bar. However, this place is a Royal Oak tradition. I just wish they took the food quality up a few notches.Pros + Good general hangout, Good people watching, Outdoor area in summeCons – Bad food, Extremely crowded
My group of 4 came in after a show at the Fillmore. We politely asked the waitress if the kitchen was still open because it was getting close to 10pm & if it wasnt we would’ve gladly gone somewhere else as we were starving & having been a waitress before I know what it’s like to have customers come in when you’re trying to shut down the kitchen. She seemed irritated and muttered “for a while longer”. Ok, either it is or it isnt. Sorry. Again, we would’ve went somewhere else. Everyone around us was eating so we ordered – simple – 4 burgers and an order of cheese bread for an appetizer. She replies “I’ll be bringing your bread out with your dinner” and walks away! Um..that’s the whole point of an APPETIZER is so you can eat it beforehand. The best part was when she brought out the burgers is that she never even brought out the bread. Guess she figured we didnt deserve it. She also took our tables ashtray away, probably figured we were the only table in there who didnt deserve to smoke so
I love the burgers. I hate the wait, the too close together tables, and no room anywhere at all to stand/sit and wait for a table because its always insanely overcrowded. Not to mention that if you got a table in the bar you are most likely eating your burger with someones rear end in your face. Oh and did I mention the screaming hostess who trolls through the bar endlessly calling out for people who are no longer there because they put their name on the list and then left. Why won’t you please just expand? The burgers are awesome and I crave them. Last time we decided we’d do an early bird special and get there around 5:30pm on a Saturday night so there would not be a long wait. We were so wrong. There was a 75 minute wait and absolutely no where to wait for a table. So we left and ate elsewhere much to my dismay. Pros + Good brew, burger, and fries. Cons – Too long of a wait, too small of a space.
went there in 2003 for co-workers birthday party.. bartender invented new cocktail w/ just about every liquor in the joint. we had about 4 each! thats how i learned the hard way not to veer off my normal drinks. we were so sick most of us ended up as patients in the er of our job. i puked for 24 hours straight. not her fault, but ill always have a story yo tell about that place. now that i got some sense ill go again.
If you like a place that is relaxed, an atmosphere that’s cool, beautiful people both working and partying then this is the place for you. I have been here on several occasions going back to parties during Super Bowl Week to the Tigers big run to the World Series and other random Tuesdays and weekend nights and the people are always nice and the drinks are great! Most of the time the huge HD screen is displaying cool pictures of the City of Detroit but if there is an important sporting event on TV you can bet it will be shown in crystal clear HD . I would highly recommend that you check out one of Downtown?s gems the next time you are in the city.Pros + Great atmosphere & service, creative drinks, high end premium liquors you don’t normally find in other bars. Bartenders are more than willing to make recommendations when asked.Cons – small sign that is hard to see when driving down the street.
