Where is the Best After-Work Bar in Columbus, Ohio?
This is the absolutely best Irish Pub in Columbus. Not gimmicky or fake like some…original and authentic. This is also the absolutely best place in Columbus for St. Patrick’s Day. You should plan to get there early and stay late. The bar doubles in size thanks to a tent that covers the entire parking lot. But bring cash…no tabs that day! Good anytime you’re looking for a fun place to hang out.Pros + Atmosphere, ServiceCons – Parking, Crowded
We have eaten at Bexley Monk several times over the years. Once upon a time it was outstanding. It then deteriorated to dreadful. I have not eaten there since new ownership/management/chef has taken over.My son ate there not long ago in party totalling five (5). The menu alerted to an 18% tip for parties of six (6) or more. The waitress arbitratily added 20% tip.The last time there was dreadful. My wife ordered scallops which were severely overcooked. They were as rubbery pucks. Where is Alton Brown when needed? We are butter addicts and were served some kind of yellow spread which was whipped and served in a bowl. It simply was not butter. The meals were $21 each. If they want to serve partially hydrogenated stuff, then say so and we can bring our own butter. In all fairness, I spoke to a person who had eaten at Bex Monk, had ordered the scallops (post new owner/manager/chef) and I was told the scallops were excellent. This is not a discount restaurant. I am more of a quality
Though Brazenhead is WAY too lavish for a genuine Irish pub, the decor is nice, and the ambience relaxed. We’ve only been there for lunch, and have never had to wait for a table. The service can be a bit iffy – some of the young girls really don’t seem terribly interested in taking care of the customers – drink orders are taken, then the server disappears for 10 mins, and there is sometimes quite a wait for food, even when the pub isn’t busy. Still, I highly recommend their burger with garlic sauce – I always ask for extra sauce on the side to dip the home-made chips in. Delicious! Prices are a little higher than other places but, hey, that’s Dublin for you.Pros + Good food, Location, Beer selectionCons – V. busy @ night, Parking, Iffy service
I was around way back when this bar was a softbal team hangout. my father would take me here after his games. The french fries and chicken fingers were a must. I continued to go to the bar as an adult and loved it. Even though it has changed ALOT, it is still a nice place to be and the food is awesome. It’s nice that some of the old things are still there. But good that some things were remodeled like the ladies bathroom!!!Pros + friendly, socialCons – parking
