Where is the Best After-Work Bar in Chicago, Illinois?
I had never even heard of this bar until my friend’s sister decided to celebrate her birthday there. There were intimate booths where people could dine, and an open bar area upstairs. The crowd was young and “J. Crew” looking. I’m not sure how much drinks cost because there was a man at the bar who bought my friends and I drinks all night… we didn’t even speak to him, he just pointed at us from across the bar. I had so much fun at this bar socializing and dancing. Everyone was friendly and chill and the DJ spinned great music. My only complaint is that he repeated some songs. Garret Ripley’s is one of the best Irish pubs that I have ever been to. During my university stay in London, I visited many countries including Bulgaria, Amsterdam, Ireland!!!(of course), Scotland and I even partied in Ibzia for a week, but no place has ever really stayed on my mind,,,,,,well okay Ibzia has, but here in the states, Garret Ripley’s rocks……and rules. I was introduced to this place by my real estate agent who’s a very nice guy and through hime I met loads of really nice, warm and friendly people. So now, Garret’s is my new hangout spot. I plan to remain a regular there and I challenge everyone in Chicago to make a stop at this lively place, where the music is outrageously fantastic and very cosmic. The bartenders are all STARS! If I’m prowling the streets of Bucktown, you’ll see me at either Map Room or Cleos on Armitage. While these locations are neighbors, their differences are stark. **It’s worth noting, Map Room has never claimed to be a restaurant – that’s (obviously) the biggest difference between the two places ** The Map Room – good beer, a bunch of regulars, good beer (yes, I mentioned it again), chill vibe, hard pretzels. Cleos – good beer, chill vibe but more modern (eg, they have flat screens, cool decor, etc.), friendly staff, great specials, and delicious food. I’ve never had a bad special off their weekly specials menu. Nor, have I ever been unhappy with an appetizer or sandwich off their regular menu. Though, I must admit – many of my “taste tests” have come after a few cocktails. All in all – I highly recommend Cleos on Armitage so long as your looking for a hip enough place with nice decor, post college crowd (not senior citizens though), a nice beer selection, and pretty darn good fo
For my money this is simply THE BEST ROCK&ROLL BAR IN THE WORLD, and I come from a city that’s famous for having the best ones (Madrid, Spain). If you are into ROCK&ROLL (being it punk, classic rock, garage, ska, etc.) this is a must. They might have the best punk-garage-rock&roll jukebox in the planet, and different DJs who change every day. Apart from the music they always have a special beer for very cheap, and they do all kinds of parties, cool movie screenings etc. Oh, yeah they have hundreds of diff beers and whiskeys and bourbons on the shelf. The staff is unbeatable too and owner is really a JEFE. Hi there – I celebrated my 40th bday there with close friends. He had a WONDERFUL TIME. Great service and excllent food! The Prime Rib was the best I’ve ever had and I’ve dined at the best rated Steakhouses inthe city. Gibson, Capital Grille, Magnums, Rosebud, Chop House, Gene’s. We had drinks and gathered in the bar lounge while waiting to be seated and we had so much fun. I don’t remember the bartenders name, mike or bob or something, he was hysterical and told us how much HE loved working there. So that says a lot about the place. I had the best birthday in forever there and the staff all came and sang to me. I think the entire restaurant knew it was my birthday cause even the host wished me well when I passed the front desk. It was really busy though so I don’t think I’d just show without a reservation. my boyfriend also got kind of jealous with all the cute guys in the bar trying to buy me drinks. Too bad. haha I am going back for sure
