Where is the Best After-Work Bar in Chicago, Illinois?
One of the hidden gems of Wrigleyville if not all of Chicago. Went with some friends to watch NFL football last Sunday and was pleased to see that they have a brunch menu each Sunday. Awesome hangover cure. I recommend the Butkus Burrito. Very friendly service. The food may be the best bar food around.
Being new to town, some friends and I went to Sheffield’s. It’s right down the street, within stumbling distance. The place was packed and looked great. We had a rawkin’ good time, but at $4 a bottle for bud light, I can’t say I’ll be heading there too often. Maybe they have specials during the week, but the weekend is killer on the tab.Pros + great atmosphere, huge barCons – expensive
I went there with my parents. We didn’t make reservations on a weeknight but, as expected, it was jam-packed with what seemed to be glamorous Loop young business-types. We were seated promptly indoors (it was a gorgeous day and the outdoor section had been reserved out). Our waitress didn’t seem to care about our service. She didn’t seem very friendly. The food was fairly good but for the price, heh, you could find that anywhere. We had the marlin, the ahi tuna, and the sea bass. I had a coconut martini. Everything was good. Not great. Good.In all, nothing special. Good decent restaurant. Priced for what it’s worth. Nothing spectacular.Pros + Good food, priced for what it’s worth. Good atmosphere. Great locationCons – Service could be a tad bit better
Wow……we came in for a drink on what we expected to be a quiet Wednesday night and were completely blown away…Service was awesome, the bartender-or should I say mixologist-was super engaging and incredibly knowledgable. From the time we walked in we felt right at home, the staff seems genuinely excited about what they’re doing at IFS: short but deep craft beer list, A-Z wine list with a lot of interesting and affordable choices, and AMAZING cocktails…all of the spirits are artisanal and the drinks are way cool! I had a really good bourbon drink called the Deshler and my date had the Moscow Mule…both were dee-lish! Jason (our Aussie barman) turned us on to their dayboat scallops, which then led to another round and a little dessert. The manager was really accomodating and made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time in, and took the time to make us samples of a crazy Absinthe cocktail called the Corpse Reviver that was actually really good. I will be back
I have to say that I went to the Black Beetle for a bloody mary this weekend and heard that they serve brunch items. I ordered an omelette of the day that was Outstanding. There was even a little cup of fresh fruit with it. Yes, strawberries, orange pieces and mango. It was not super fancy, but it was plentifull and looked and tasted great. The server was super fun and pretty cute. The red potato hash browns are awesome! I always thought this was just a rock n roll night time spot, but they have really added another element of surprise to the table. I stayed for about 3 hours when I was only planning on one bloody. I will definitely be back soon. Pros + FunCons – a little crowded at times
