Where is the Best After-Work Bar in Boston, Massachusetts?
I live right around the corner and just wanted to step out for a beer and a snack. Little did I know that I’d get one of the tastiest appetizers I’ve ever had in my life. It was cheese-based with bacon in it and unfortunately was a special for that day and not on their normal menu. That said, I’ve seen it there on other days though I can’t remember the kind of cheese. It’s very typical of some of the pubs I frequented back in London and had the perfect feel for a late-afternoon pint. Three of us got an array of appetizers and none of them disappointed. But if you see some gouda and bacon appetizer you better get it b/c you won’t be sorry.Pros + Delicious food, good beer selection, genuine-feeling atmosphereCons – Difficult to secure a table for eating during happy hour
Sidney’s Grille is an oasis of affordable elegance in the midst of Central Square. Located at MIT?s University Park in the upscale Le Meridien hotel, the restaurant features innovative new American cuisine. With its ultra-modern decor, high ceilings and beautiful bar with marble counter tops, Sidney’s immediately makes diners feel pampered. And then there?s the delightful and well-presented dishes. Appetizers like the three-cod New England clam chowder and the seared sea scallops with lemon thyme sparkle. Favorite main courses include the mouth watering striped sea bass with sweet corn and leek ragout; the sesame crusted ahi tuna with gingered sweet potato; and Sidney?s strip steak with roasted garlic. A little off the beaten path, Sidney’s Grille is truly a hidden gem that is one of the best kept secrets in Cambridge.
I’ve been to Vox a few times and have only good things to say about my experiences there. The first few times I went were for parties – Vox is apparently very easy to schedule events with, because our class used to have events there each semester. They have two bars – upstairs and downstairs, and a great décor, though I guess you could argue it’s a little confusing to get to the bathrooms. It can also get cramped fast.In addition to our private parties I also attended Vox’s awesome Halloween party in 2009, which was a great time! One of the more affordable, fun Halloween parties going on that weekend. I’ve found the drinks to be good, the staff to be very professional, and the atmosphere to be a lot of fun. The bar touts their dozens of martinis, but they have a ton of drink options and I’ve ordered a few different drinks and never been disappointed. But this past week I went for the first time to actually eat something – their restaurant is running a promotion in February
If you want a delicious burger in a restaurant with good prices and excellent service Houston’s is the place to go. We usually go in the afternoon or weeknight evenings and it is not busy, so reviews that complain about waits and service problems may be due to the volume of customers.Their garden burgers are enough to almost make you not miss the beef. The fish sandwich is also delicious. One of my favorite things about Houston’s is that you can substitute fries for something like coleslaw, or cooked vegetables. They also cook your meat to your request and get it right.Advice from my fiancee is that you shouldn’t order a burger on a date. They are too messy and juicy to look neat eating them. We did have burgers on one of our first dates, and she is marrying me, so it clearly isn’t a deal breaker.Overall I really like Houston’s for a good burger in a nice setting. Every server we have had has been excellent, and we really enjoy eating here.Pros + Service is always friendly and ef
