Schists are abundant in the Precambrian (Archeozoic and Proterozoic) rocks. Schists are usually the product of regional metamorphism of existing rock, usually sedimentary, but sometimes of fine grained igneous rock. Schist could therefore be found where eroded mountains reveal the rock, or in areas of glacial deposition of eroded schist.
