Where is Kaunas?
Kaunas is the second biggest city in Lithuania (map on the right). Lithuania is a small plot of land at the Baltic Sea. The whole west fringe of the country (appr. 100 km) is occupied by the amber coastline with marvelous beaches of white sand. Clean waters of Sesupe, Dubysa, Nevezis and Nemunas flow. Sometimes Lithuania is called the Nemunas land due to the great love Lithuanians have to the river Nemunas. The present territory of the country covers 65,300 km2, with a land boundary of 747 km and a coastline of 99 km. The longest distance from east to west is 373 km, and from north to south 276 km. The Lithuanian language is one of the most archaic in Europe. Lithuanian is a representative of the Baltic group of the Indo-European languages. Currently, only Latvian is closely related to it.
