This is located in the following policy statement: If the School Food Authority elects to implement direct certification, the Department of Human Services documentation will be provided by the Department of Education to each SFA who elects to issue benefits through the Direct Certification Process. The documentation will contain all information necessary to provide free benefits for children listed. SFAs will provide for the parental right of refusing benefits. The SFA assumes responsibility for maintaining confidentiality of the DHS direct certification information. File retention will be the same as for applications. Children who have not previously been enrolled in this school system and who apply for benefits after the beginning of the school year must complete an application.
