Where is Houston?
… it is the world capital of the energy industry, has non-stop flights to Asia, Latin America, the Mideast, and Europe, has a huge number of headquarters, foreign companies, and consulates as well as a substantial ex-pat community. I’m not parochial (I am from and live in Boston), but Houston’s global influence seems to have been discounted in this ranking.” Thanks for noticing. Yeah, Houston should definitely have made the list. We’ve got energy and engineering/construction folks working all over the world, NASA folks doing stints in Russia, a huge number of international students, etc. Danielle wrote, “it’s multiculturalism is shallow” Houston’s main weakness is it’s not much of a tourist destination, apart from Johnson Space Center. But Houston is an incredibly diverse city. We’ve got huge numbers of immigrants from all over Latin America, Asia, lots of Nigerians now, etc. Immigrants tend to be quite upwardly mobile in Houston, too. Sugar Land, where I live, is 26% Asian. Link to
