Where is Harahan?
Manny Kaiser: Harahan is in Jefferson Parish about eight miles outside of New Orleans, near the old Huey P. Long Bridge. You can see the bridge from our store. We are on the east bank of the river. Author: Hurricane Katrina devastated the east side of New Orleans, so you were on the east bank, but to the west side of the city? Manny Kaiser: Yes, we were very fortunate. Our building is four feet off of the ground, so there was no water in the building, no physical damage. Our building is made of pre-stressed concrete, so that it is very tough. We did have problems with our employees. Some of them disappeared and went to Houston. Two of our employees from that store came up to False River and lived at my parents’ camp up there for six weeks. False River is about 40 miles northwest of Baton Rouge (about 90 miles from New Orleans). The two employees and their families moved into the camp for about six weeks.
