The town of Gardiner is located in southern Ulster County, approximately 15 miles from the cities of Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Newburgh and approximately 75 miles north of New York City. The town covers an area of 45 square miles (28,600 acres). It is bisected by highway Route US44-NY55 (east-west) and the Wallkill River (north-south). The hamlet of Gardiner (pop. 600) is located along highway Route US44-NY55 approximately one mile west of highway Route NY208. Nearby place names include New Paltz, Wallkill, Modena, Clintondale, Highland, Kerhonkson, Ireland Corners, Shawangunk Mountains, Lake Minnewaska and Lake Mohonk.
