Where is Econet to commission new switchboard?
ZIMBABWE’s leading mobile operator, Econet Wireless Holdings, is set to commission a new switchboard in Bulawayo in a move that will improve service delivery for subscribers in the southern part of the country. Econet group chief executive, Mr Douglas Mboweni, told a press conference that the move had been in the pipeline as it was the company’s intention to provide first class service to its customers. “The Bulawayo switchboard will reduce the load imposed by traffic on the Harare branch, thereby limiting disruptions in service,” Mr Mboweni said. Since the entry of Econet into the telecommunications industry, all calls made by the company’s subscribers from across the country were passing through one switchboard in Harare. Mr Mboweni said the Bulawayo switchboard would result in the final division of network between the southern region and northern parts of the country.
