Lying close to the Polynesian Islands of the Marquesas (where one season of Survivor was filmed) and the Society Islands, it is the worlds most remote inhabited island. Imagine being in a place so isolated! It is quite amazing to imagine how the first people came to inhabit this place. Why would one or two boatloads of people decide to stay on an uninhabited island? Easter Island is one of the world’s most isolated inhabited islands. It is located 3,600 km (2,237 mi) west of continental Chile, at 27 degrees south of the equator, longitude -109. That’s about 4.5 to 5 hours from Chile and 5 to 6 hours from Tahiti on Lan airlines the only commercial airline serving the island.
