Where Is Darien National Park?
Bordering on Columbia, Darien National Park is located in Darien Province, Panama, Central America. Covering an area of five thousand nine hundred and seventy squared kilometres, Darien National Park is a majestic tropical rainforest park home to the Macaw, parrots, the harpy eagle, tapirs and other tropical plants and wildlife. The Darien National Park is also home to two indigenous tribes who still follow their ancestral way of life and customs. Of all of Panama’s fourteen national parks, Darien National Park is the largest. It is also the largest protected area in all of Central America and the Caribbean. Established in September 1980, Darien National Park was declared a World Heritage Site in 1981 and was designated as a Biosphere Reserve in 1983. Visitors interested in witnessing the fantastic sights, sounds and atmosphere of Darien National Park can reach the park by air to El Real, the closest town to the park.
