Where is Composite Material From?
In this section you will learn why different materials are used together in certain objects and the ways in which this can be done. It is actually very rare to find a work of art that is composed of just one material. Look through the gallery section of the website. How many works of art can you find that are made up of just one material? Sometimes it is easy to see the mixture of materials. An example of this is the Three Legged Dog Toasting Fork, where metal and wood have been used for different sections. At other times it is not possible to see that a work of art is made of different materials. Look at this relief plaque. Can you guess what it is made of? It is supposed to look like a kind of very expensive wood, called ebony. However, it is really made from a mixture of sawdust, water and animal blood!
