Where is Christmas Island?

0

The Territory of Christmas Island is a small, non-self-governing territory of Australia located in the Indian Ocean, 2,360 kilometres (1,466 mi) northwest of Perth in Western Australia and 500 kilometres (310 mi) south of Jakarta, Indonesia. It maintains about 1,600 residents who live in a number of “settlement areas” on the northern tip of the island: Flying Fish Cove (also known as “The Settlement”), Silver City, Kampong, Poon Saan and Drumsite. It has a unique natural topography and is of immense interest to scientists and naturalists due to the number of species of endemic flora and fauna which have evolved in isolation[1] and undisturbed by human habitation. While there has been mining activity on the island for many years, 65 per cent of its 135 square kilometres (52.1 sq mi) are now National Park and there are large areas of pristine and ancient rainforest.

It is not written on the textbooks, nor it is on the map. There was no Internet service at that time, too. I only knew that the island belongs to Australia. However, it is such a beautiful name. It seems that Christmas trees are all over the island. Without thinking much, I promised with my best friend that we would go to Christmas Island together. Then we replied the relatives. Without telling my family, I kept my luggage, set the itinerary and ready to leave. However, the offer letter from the university came and smashed my Christmas dream. Nevertheless, I’m still keeping the messages from Christmas Island over the years. Captain William Mynors from the Royal Mainuoshi found this island on 25 Dec 1643. This is the reason this island is named as Christmas Island. Jesus Christ has never been to this island, nor it is the hometown for Santa Claus. There are 1493 people on the island, with 70% of them are Chinese. Many of whom are from Malaysia, too. Every November is the migration seaso
