Where is CCM? How did the CCM building come about?

Crisis Control Ministry opened in 1973 in a brick structure at 930 Patterson Avenue that had been built as a mission of First Baptist Church (Fifth Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC). After 10 years, the Patterson Avenue facility had become obsolete, and, after receiving a $100,000 award from Consolidated Foods (now Sara Lee) of Chicago, the Board of Directors entered a capital campaign to build a new facility that would communicate dignity to the clients and better serve those in need. Thanks to the generosity of many corporate, foundation, and individual donors, the ministry relocated in August 1985 to its present location at 200 East Tenth Street, behind the Patterson Avenue building (now Bethesda Center for the Homeless). In 1977 the Kernersville community joined with the ministry to open a satellite location in Kernersville. Again, desperate for adequate space, the community completed a successful capital campaign, and the Kernersville office now has adequate space to serve those in need.
